After a few weeks away from league action, with clubs focusing on their respective state championships, the Brasileirao returned for Round five.
It has been a wild couple of weeks since the last set of league fixtures. Flamengo have changed coaches, Sao Paulo have also made a change in the dugout, and there was a mass brawl between Cruzeiro and Atletico Mineiro players, which made headlines around the world after 23 red cards were shown.
Mirassol 2-2 Cruzeiro
Kicking things off was an all-Sao Paulo affair between Mirassol and Santos.
Mirassol came into the match unbeaten at home in the top flight, a record that now stretches to 21 matches.
Igor Formiga fired the hosts in front after getting on the end of a neat cross from Alesson.
The second half saw Negueba double Mirassol’s lead 19 minutes from time, and it looked like the hosts had done enough to secure all three points.
However, a brace from Gabriel Barbosa sparked an unlikely comeback for Santos, who fought back to earn a 2-2 draw and pick up a valuable point on the road against a side with a very strong home record.
Santos managed their comeback without Neymar. He was rested for the match after playing a key role in their 2-1 victory over Vasco.
Atletico Mineiro 1-0 Internacional
Atletico Mineiro were involved in a huge brawl in their state championship final match against Cruzeiro.
23 players were sent off as they lost 1-0.
Coming into this match, they were also still winless in the league and desperate to pick up their first three points of the season.
Internacional were also not having the best start, which was capped off by a heavy 4-1 aggregate loss to rivals Gremio.
Galo made the perfect start, taking the lead inside just two minutes when Tomas Cuello found the net early on. It was Hulk who provided the assist for the Argentinian, and that goal would prove to be the only one of the match, as Atletico held on to secure their first victory of the league campaign.
However, it was Inter who created the better chances, particularly in the second half, where they dominated possession. They finished the match with 12 shots, seven on target, and created two big chances but failed to convert them.
The result means the side from Porto Alegre remain winless after five matches, while the Belo Horizonte-based side now hold a record of one win, two draws and two defeats.
Bahia 1-1 Vitoria
One of the most fiercely contested fixtures in the northeast of Brazil saw Bahia take on Vitória in the latest edition of the Ba-Vi derby. And, of course, the game would not come without controversy. It took just five minutes for that to arrive.
Bahia came into the match following a 2-1 victory over Vitória in the Campeonato Baiano, and it was the hosts who created the first big chance of the game…
A mistake from the Vitoria goalkeeper, Lucas Arcanjo, saw him bring down Erick Pulgar inside the box, leaving the referee with little choice but to award a penalty.
William Jose stepped up to take the spot kick, but his initial effort was saved by Arcanjo. Luciano Juba reacted quickest to the rebound and fired the ball into the back of the net. However, the celebrations were cut short as the goal was ruled out for encroachment into the box.
In the first half, Bahia had the majority of the chances, but it was Vitoria who struck first just on the stroke of half-time, following a piece of magic from Ramon, who managed to lob Ronaldo in the Bahia net to give the visitors the lead.
However, it did not take the hosts long to respond. Esquadrao de Aco found themselves back on level terms. A lovely looped cross into the box was headed down by Jose and met by Jean Lucas, who fired home to bring Bahia level.
The second half was a rather dull affair, with just one shot on target, which came from Bahia. In the end, both sides had to settle for a point.
The result means Bahia remain undefeated, with two wins and two draws from their opening four matches, while Vitoria now have one win, one draw and two defeats to their name.
Flamengo 2-0 Cruzeiro
Since the last round of matches, it has been an eventful period for both Flamengo and Cruzeiro.
We start with the Rubro Negro, who made the shock decision to sack Filipe Luis following their emphatic 8-0 victory over Madureira. Reports later emerged that Luis had been in talks with other clubs during his time in charge, and when the Flamengo board became aware of this, they decided to dismiss him.

In his place, Flamengo appointed Leonardo Jardim, the former Cruzeiro manager. Jardim had previously stated in August 2025 that he would never manage another Brazilian club aside from Cruzeiro. However, just months later, he now finds himself in charge against his former club.
Cruzeiro had recently taken on Atletico Mineiro in the Campeonato Mineiro final. Cruzeiro secured a famous 1-0 victory, but the match was overshadowed by controversy as a mass brawl resulted in an astonishing 23 players being sent off.
With all that drama surrounding both clubs, attention turned back to league action. On the pitch, it was Flamengo who enjoyed the better of the evening.
Pedro opened the scoring inside the first five minutes, setting the tone early for the hosts. The victory was secured deep into stoppage time in the 98th minute when Jorge Carrascal wrapped things up with a second goal to seal a 2-0 win for the Rubro Negro.
The result made it back-to-back league victories and marked Jardim’s first league win in charge of the club. Flamengo also lifted the Campeonato Carioca with a victory over rivals Fluminense on Sunday, giving him the perfect start to life at the club.
After four matches played, Flamengo have won two, drawn one and lost one. Cruzeiro, meanwhile, remain winless after five matches and currently sit inside the bottom four of the table.
Corinthians 0-2 Coritiba
Corinthians took on Coritiba at home in a match where both sides were looking to return to winning ways.
For Corinthians, they had drawn 1-1 away from home against Cruzeiro before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Gremio Novorizontino in the state championships.
For Coxa, after suffering a shock early elimination at the hands of Operario in the Campeonato Paranaense, they had not played since the 25th of February, meaning they came into the match with fresher legs, something that would prove to be important.
They took the lead in the 37th minute when Josue’s corner found Jacy, who headed home to make it 1-0.

Things got even better for Coritiba early in the second half. A clever cross from Josue once again found Lucas Ronier, who doubled the lead and put the hosts firmly in control.
Coritiba managed to hold on for the result, securing an important three points. It was their second victory of the season following their earlier 2-1 win against Cruzeiro.
After five matches, Coritiba now have two wins, one draw and two defeats. Timao hold an identical record, but Coxa currently sit above them in the table on goals scored.
Remo 0-2 Fluminense
Remo came into the game following a 2–1 aggregate defeat to rivals Paysandu in the Campeonato Paraense. Likewise, Fluminense entered this match after suffering a 1–0 defeat to bitter rivals Flamengo in the Campeonato Carioca final.
It was the away side who started the brighter of the two teams, and that early pressure paid off when Rene found John Kennedy, who tapped home to give them the lead inside 16 minutes.
In the first half, Flu goalkeeper Fabio produced a fantastic save to deny his opponents, the 45-year-old showing he still has it with reflexes that looked more like those of his younger years.
However, it would prove to mean little in the end as Agustin Canobbio rose highest to meet a Luciano Acosta cross, sealing a 2-0 victory for Fluminense away from home against a Remo side that looked like a tough challenge on paper.
The result sees Flumove into third place on ten points after their opening matches, while Remo are still searching for their first win of the season following three draws and two defeats.
Vasco da Gama 2-1 Palmeiras
It was a Paulista v Rio de Janeiro affair as Vasco da Gama took on Palmeiras, seeking their first victory in the fixture since a 2-0 win away from home back in 2015.
On that occasion, goals from Rafael Silva and Nene secured the win for the side from Rio de Janeiro.
You would have to dig even deeper into the record books to find Vasco’s last home victory over Palmeiras, which came back in September 2012. On that occasion, a certain Juninho Pernambucano was on the scoresheet in a 3-1 victory.
Vasco came into this match on the back of three straight defeats following their exit from the Campeonato Carioca at the hands of Fluminense.
Palmeiras, meanwhile, arrived in strong form, unbeaten in their last nine matches. That run included a 3-1 aggregate victory over Gremio Novorizontino in the Campeonato Paulista final to secure the state title.
It was the side from Sao Paulo who took the lead and looked to continue their usual dominance in this fixture. Wearing their away strip of yellow shirts, blue shorts and white socks, they almost looked more like the Brazilian national team than Palmeiras.
And it was a lovely strike that fired them into the lead. Jose Lopez cut inside from the edge of the box before curling the ball past goalkeeper Léo Jardim to give Palmeiras the advantage.
However, it would be Vasco who turned things around in the second half.
First, Thiago Mendes showed great composure to bring Vasco back on level terms and give the hosts hope. Then Cuiabano and Paulo Henrique linked up well, with Cuiabano finishing the move to complete the turnaround and secure a historic victory over the Paulista side.
The result handed Palmeiras their first defeat of the Brasileirao season, leaving them with three wins, one draw and one loss. For Vasco da Gama, it was their first victory of the campaign, lifting them to 15th place and out of the drop zone.
Sao Paulo 2-0 Chapaecoense
Sao Paulo took on Chapecoense for the first time since 2021. The hosts came into the match following a 2–1 defeat to Palmeiras in the state championship semi-final, a result that ultimately led to the dismissal of Hernan Crespo, who was replaced by Roger Machado.
Chapecoense also entered the match off the back of disappointment, having suffered a 3–2 aggregate defeat to Barra FC in the Campeonato Catarinense final.
After a dominant first half from Sao Paulo, they created ten shots with three of them on target, compared to Chapecoense’s three efforts with just one on target.
Despite the pressure, the sides went into the break level, although Sao Paulo were likely the happier of the two, knowing they had controlled much of the play and would be hoping to produce something more decisive in the second half, while Chapecoense knew they needed to improve.
A looped ball from Marcos Antonio saw Luciano rise brilliantly to head home and fire the hosts into the lead in rainy conditions at the Morumbi.
Then, moments later, Damian Bobadilla, who has recently been linked with a move to Celtic, played a clever pass through to Jonathan Calleri, who smashed the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0 to Tricolour and secure an important three points.
Despite the dismissal of Crespo, as mentioned earlier, Sao Paulo now sit top of the league unbeaten with four wins and one draw from their opening five matches.
Chapecoense, meanwhile, sit in 12th place with one win, two draws and two defeats.
Gremio 1-1 Bragantino
Gremio hosted Bragantino in their first meeting since Bragantino’s 1-0 victory back in October 2025.
Gremio came into the match on the back of a 4-1 aggregate win over bitter rivals Internacional, while Bragantino were seeking their first victory in two matches following a 1-1 draw with Athletico Paranaense last time out.
In what was a fairly even contest early on, it was the side from Porto Alegre who struck first as Carlos Vinicius opened the scoring for Gremio.
The former Fulham man equalised thanks to a wonderful delivery from Jose Enamorado, which he met perfectly with his head to guide the ball past Cleiton, who had no chance in the net.
The scoreline remained level until the 66th minute, when a wonderful strike from Rodriguinho from the edge of the box saw Weverton with no chance, and the match finished level as both sides had to settle for a point apiece.
The result means Bragantino sit in fifth place with two wins, two draws and one defeat, while Grêmio are in ninth with two wins, one draw and two defeats from their five matches.
