Chelsea FC failed in a late move to sign Antoine Semenyo from Manchester City, with the winger favouring a switch to the Etihad, according to The Athletic.
Chelsea submitted an enquiry on Monday evening to assess the conditions of a possible deal, but Semenyo turned down the approach and opted against a move to Stamford Bridge.
The 25-year-old has scored eight goals and registered three assists in the Premier League this season.
The Ghana international has a £60m release clause, plus £5m in achievable add-ons. Clubs can activate the clause only during the first ten days of January.
According to David Ornstein, Semenyo views the Etihad as the perfect destination to win trophies.
Chelsea are said to have opted against a move for the winger after making an initial enquiry. However this is a usual media briefing tactic to protect club position.
Manchester United were also a contender for Semenyo’s signature. Ruben Amorim was even prepared to change the system in order to fit him in their plans. It's understood the player was not interested.
Despite losing Semenyo to Manchester City. Subject to the formal steps being completed. Chelsea will continue to assess the market in 2026 for an attacker. The Blues missed out on Xavi Simons and Fermin Lopez last summer.
They are still well stocked however. With the likes of Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, Alejandro Garnacho, Jamie Gittens, Tyrique George and others providing depth.
Juventus attacker Kenan Yildiz is still in talks over a contract renewal in Italy. There has been historic links with Chelsea. He is one to keep an eye on for the summer window.
Chelsea also hold a historic interest in Morgan Rogers.
