Group outcomes are really starting to take shape as day nine of the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup delivered a clearer picture of which teams are in contention to make it to the round of 32.

The co-hosting United States officially locked down their ticket to the knockout phase, while powerhouse South American nations Brazil and Paraguay engineered vital bounce-back triumphs. Meanwhile, both Haiti and Turkey bid goodbye to the tournament with a game to spare after suffering killer-blow losses.

Playing before a parked Seattle Stadium, the USMNT dominated Australia to stand alongside Mexico as the first nations safely through to the Round of 32.

Navigating the high-stakes clash without captain Christian Pulisic, who was sidelined due to fitness precautions, the Americans did not blink.

After Australia’s Cameron Burgess netted an unfortunate own goal in the 11th minute, Alex Freeman doubled the lead for USMNT just before halftime, reacting quickest to pounce on a Sergino Dest rebound, striking exactly 30 years after his father, Antonio Freeman, scored his famous touchdown in Super Bowl XXXI.

Australia's decision to bench teenage phenom Nestory Irankunda stalled their early energy.

Although his halftime introduction injected some spark for Australia, the Americans managed their lead perfectly, and in the end, they had enough to register a solid 2-0 win.

Paraguay 1-0 Turkey

Turkey were officially sent packing after losing to 10-man Paraguay, whose early strike 65 seconds into the match through Matias Galarza was enough to give them a 1-0 win.

The match turned chaotic when Miguel Almiron became the first player ever sent off under FIFA's newly instituted protocol, receiving a straight red card for covering his mouth while speaking during an on-field referee confrontation.

Despite operating with 10 men for the entire second half, Paraguay put on a heroic defensive exhibition to seal their first shorthanded World Cup win in 12 years, officially sending the goalless, pointless Turks home.

Group C: Brazil's Flawless Recovery, Morocco Grinds in Boston

Philadelphia Stadium witnessed a vintage Samba exhibition as Brazil forcefully found their tournament groove, clinically dismantling Haiti to officially end the Caribbean nation's historic, 52-year-awaited World Cup run.

Handed a starting role ahead of Igor Thiago, Man United forward Matheus Cunha justified his inclusion with a devastating first-half brace, bullying center-backs for a physical opener before executing a gorgeous technical second.

Vinicius Junior put the game out of reach before the interval, breaking away for a trademark solo goal after isolating the Haitian keeper one v one and finding the back of the net.

Morocco 1-0 Scotland

The Atlas Lions took absolute command of Group C, grinding out a mature victory over Scotland in Boston to climb to four points.

The tactical script was thrown out after just 70 seconds when Ismael Saibari caught the Scottish backline asleep, latching onto a defense-splitting Brahim Díaz through-ball to hammer a venomous strike into the roof of the net.

Scotland rallied aggressively after the break, manufacturing multiple high-value opportunities as the Moroccan lines fatigued, but a lack of final-third precision left the Tartan Army empty-handed.
