Roberto Carlos has been part of StriveAid since Lewes in 2024. On the eve of this year’s match, Striver’s Tim told followers that something had come up and Roberto couldn’t fly in. Rather than find another famous name, he put the armband up for a supporter.
The nominations came in by DM. The pick was Andy Lindley, put forward by a friend for the work he does with dads. When Tim rang to tell him, Andy was in the middle of coaching an under-11s session.
He got the whole Roberto treatment: the players’ lunch with Gilberto, Sol and the creators, a hotel room, and four VIP tickets for the people he chose.
“That’s what we love to see. That’s what football’s all about, grassroots football.”
