Days after signing England Lionesses' midfielder Georgia Stanway from Bayern Munich, Arsenal have returned to the Bundesliga to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.

How Selina Cerci Became One of Germany's Most Prolific Forwards

The 26-year-old forward joins the Gunners from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, where she scored an impressive 34 goals in 47 league appearances across two seasons.

She arrives fresh off her best returns in her professional career, topping the Frauen Bundesliga charts with 25 goal contributions, which included 16 goals.

Having scored 100 league goals in 158 matches across five different German clubs, Cerci's made a name for herself as a clear goalscoring threat.

This has led to her inclusion in Germany's international set up since February 2022, where she made her senior debut against Spain.

She has since reached 20 international caps, scoring five goals which includes a hat-trick against Scotland in the 2025 Nations League.

Having spent all of her career in Germany, moving to England to join the most supported team in the Women's Super League presents a new and exciting challenge.

Why Selina Cerci Chose Arsenal

Rumours are that Cerci is a big Arsenal fan, and has been pictured posing in a Dennis Bergkamp shirt in front of the TV, celebrating a goal from Men's teams starboy, Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal have also recently extended manager Renee Slegers contract until 2029, which shows a strong belief and security for the future of one of, if not the, biggest clubs in the WSL.

Arsenal are on a strong trajectory. Winning the champions league in 2024-25, and pushing eventual champions Manchester City right to the final weeks of the domestic season in the Women's Super League, now seems to be a great time to join such a promising project.

Cerci's lethal finishing, lightning pace, and playmaking vision, should all add significant quality to Arsenal's attacking threat, as they prepare to push beyond consecutive second place finishes to win their first league title since the 2018-19 season.

How Selina Cerci Fits Into Arsenal's Attack

The obvious question is, where will she play? With Alessia Russo as Arsenal's star striker, and Stina Blackstenius proving a strong secondary option, was there a need to sign another elite No.9? A good challenge for Renee Slegers to solve.

Slegers began the season using Blackstenius as a super sub, however her strong performances led to her being included in the starting XI alongside Russo in the latter half of the season.

This new setup worked well, earning Blackstenius a two year contract extension, when her original deal was expiring in the summer.

If Slegers continues with this setup into '26-27, adding Cerci as a third option who can play multiple attacking positions could easily see Arsenal become one of the biggest goalscoring sides in the WSL.

Expect to see plenty more movement in the transfer window, as Arsenal will look to bolster their squad to challenge the top level of club football, especially with multiple players departing the team already.
