Arsenal icon Martin Keown has praised Alexander Isak following his winner in Liverpool's 2-1 win over nine-man Brentford.

After going 1-0 down by virtue of a lovely-taken header from Keane Lewis-Potter, the Bees were reduced to 10 men. Yehor Yarmolyuk was given his marching orders after headbutting Jeremy Jacquet before a corner kick had been taken by the visitors.

Moments after his involvement in an off-the-ball tussle with Kevin Schade midway through the second half, Victor Muñoz equalised for Liverpool after a brilliant solo run after a through ball from Florian Wirtz.

Alexander Isak made it 2-1 for Andoni Iraola's side with his fifth league goal of the season in the 70th minute as Liverpool really started to cement their control with the one-man advantage and arguably should've done a bit more with it.

Bradley Barcola, Alexis Mac Allister, Rio Ngumoha, and even Virgil van Dijk all had chances that weren't too far off before Brentford were down to nine men after Vitaly Janelt's sending off for a second yellow after a challenge on Ngumoha.

Barcola provided the assist for Isak's winner, which is worth its weight in gold for Liverpool and manager Andoni Iraola. And for the Swedish striker, he has started to live up to expectations following a disappointing debut campaign at Anfield.

Martin Keown Praises Alexander Isak

On BBC's Final Score coverage, Arsenal legend Martin Keown had plenty of praise for Liverpool's Isak, who now starting to show the club why they spent £125 million last summer to get him from Newcastle United.

"We talked about the calibre of player and the money Liverpool have spent. Alexander Isak's finish, he takes a touch and sweeps it home. It's an absolutely beautiful finish and well-taken goal."

Isak has now already scored five Premier League goals on the heels of only scoring three in his first season at Liverpool that was plagued by injury and underlined the club's struggles under Arne Slot.

Right now, he's joint-second in league goals along with Chelsea's Joao Pedro, second only to Manchester City's Erling Haaland, who is sitting on eight goals after his brace in City's 3-2 win over Ipswich Town.

Analysing Isak's Winner vs Brentford

As Keown mentioned, Isak did incredibly well to take his finish for the winner under a fair bit of pressure. Barcola's cushioned header from Mac Allister's cross required a touch from the Swede to win the ball under pressure from Kristoffer Ajer and he fired his effort off balance and falling away from goal - much harder to do than it looks.

Aesthetically, it might not have been the most appealing goal, but it was a strike that's typical of a striker that's confident and in form, something Liverpool never really saw from Isak last season.

Isak's made quite the habit of scoring against Brentford, as his goal in the 2-1 win sees that he's now scored five goals from as many matches against the Bees and he'll be hoping it spurs on a continued run of positive form of goal contributions.
