For the second game in a row, Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham grabbed a huge win over their rivals Chelsea to continue on their truly found momentum from the Coventry victory as they clinched a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Mike Penders made an unfortunate error in goal for Chelsea to give Tottenham the lead, before Mathys Tel scored a cracker of a goal to give them all three points and safely pull them out of the relegation places.

Striver.Football sought to rate the players’ performances to see how they fared during the game:

Chelsea

GK-Mike Penders- 4

Will want to forget his unfortunate mistake on his full Premier League debut in place for the injured Emi Martinez as his attempted punch clearing the ball away resulted in an unfortunate own goal from a Tottenham corner.

RCB-Josh Acheampong-5

Kept Mathys Tel at bay in the first half with his speed covering the wide channels but ultimately lost the battle against the Frenchman.

CCB-Maxence Lacoix -6

Had a great game but was unfortunate his attempted clearance to prevent Mike Penders’ mistake was made way too late.

LCB-Levi Colwil- 5

Made a calamitous mistake for Tottenham’s second goal after being dispossessed by Mathys Tel who scored the Lilywhite’s second goal.

RWB-Pedro Neto-6

Tried to stretch the Chelsea backline in the first half, but it ultimately was not enough to prevent defeat.

CM-Moises Caicedo -6

Covered ground for his team, but his work was made a lot harder after Cole Palmer was dismissed.

CM-Jordan Henderson -6

Is developing a good partnership with Moses Caicedo and tried to control the game, but his efforts ultimately could not help Tottenham avoid defeat.

LWB-Jorel Hato -5

Did not really influence the game as well as he did against Chelsea.

RAM-Cole Palmer-3

Had a good first half destroyed by a bad second half which saw him see two needless yellow cards that counted against his team in the end.

LAM-Giovani Quenda-5

Did not really grab the chance he was handed to make an impact with Joao Pedro unavailable.

CF-Morgan Rogers-5

Tried to progress the ball centrally as a center forward and linked up the play well, but was anonymous for much of the second half.

Chelsea Subs

Marco Palerstra -5

Did not really have any impact in the game.

Estevao Willian - 5

Received a great ovation when he came on, but that is about as good as it got as he couldn’t influence the game in any way.

Danny Welbeck -N/A

Did not have enough time to influence the outcome of the game.

Tottenham

GK-Antonín Kinsky-8

Had a good evening in goal for Tottenham, and made a couple of saves throughout the game that played a crucial role in keeping Tottenham in the game.

RB-Archie Gray- 7 - Had a good battle with Giovani Quenda, who was playing on the left wing for Chelsea having come into the line up in place of Joao Pedro. Generally tidy in possession which helped Tottenham in possession.

CB-Jan Paul van Hecke 7 -

Dealt well with the threat of Morgan Rogers at center forward and set the tone for Tottenham’s build up play from the back.

CB-Micky van de Ven 7- His speed was vital in helping stop Chelsea’s moments especially on the break.

LB-Andy Robertson 6-

Did okay curbing the threat of both Pedro Neto and Cole Palmer on the left before being subbed off for Pedro Poro in the 64th minute

CM-Mateus Fernandes 8-

Had a great chance to show why Tottenham spent big on the Portuguese last summer, and generally showed tidiness in possession setting the tempo from deep. Also covered a lot of ground that was valuable in helping them win.

CM-Sandro Tonali-6

Tried to keep things ticking in possession for Tottenham and did not really look out of place

LW-Mathys Tel - 7

Gave Tottenham pace on the flank but was a bit rushed with his final ball especially in the first half. Did score a cracker of a goal to give Tottenham a 2-0 lead win after running with the ball 50 yards after dispossessing Levi Colwil.

AM-James Maddison - 6

Tried to create some chances and was helping Tottenham become a threat in attack before suffering an unfortunate groin strain early in the second half.

RW-Mohammed Kudus-6

Was a threat down the right wing for Tottenham, combining well with Archie Gray, which contributed to the win.

CF- Omar Marmoush -6

Showed flashes of threat and even created a good chance for Mathys Tel in the first half, and was a thorn in Chelsea’s neck with his movement.

Tottenham Subs

Connor Gallagher -7

Did the job required of him after coming on for the injured Maddison and covered ground that helped his side to the win.

Dominic Solanke - 6

Was a handful for the Chelsea center backs when he came on

Pedro Porro - 6

Kept things ticking at right back when he came on.

Ben Davies - N/A

Could not influence the outcome of the game.

Dejan Kulusevski - N/A

Could not influence the outcome of the game.

Final Thoughts

Tottenham will now be aiming to build on from their newly found momentum as it looks like they will finally make good on their heavy investment in the summer.

For Chelsea, they will need to rethink and reduce the level of carelessness and rashness within the side, which is continuing to prove an achilles heel for this young side.
