Enzo Fernández says joining Manchester City fulfils a childhood ambition, with the midfielder insisting the move was not driven by deadline-day pressure.

Speaking to Manchester City’s in-house media in his first interview since completing the move, Fernández said he did not hesitate when the club made contact.

“From the first day they believed in me and called me to say they wanted me to join the club, I didn't hesitate for a second,” he said. Fernández also spoke about his desire to play for City.

“I always dreamed of being at a club as big as City,” he said. The midfielder described the move as a very emotional moment for him and his family.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity. It’s a very emotional moment for my family and me, to take this step at 25 years old, in a football career that I always dreamed of. “I’m so happy to be here, enjoying these first few hours I’ve had at the club.”

Enzo Fernández Explains Why He Hasn't Trained With His New Squad Yet

Fernández has not yet trained with his new teammates. He said he has been watching City’s matches on television since completing the move. Fernández said the changes to City’s squad this summer stood out to him while watching from home and left him “really happy” about the club’s rebuild.

“I haven’t had the chance to train yet, but I’ve watched them on TV. “And honestly, the team City are building this year is incredible, and it makes me really happy that they are going in that direction.”

Fernández will join several other new signings as he settles into a City squad that has undergone significant changes this summer.

Fernández Explains How Manchester City's Trophy Record Shapes His Own Ambitions

Fernández said City’s record of winning trophies has raised his expectations. “Manchester City have to win every trophy they compete for,” he said. “This club's history demands that.”

City have won 20 major honours over the past 10 seasons, a record Fernández highlighted when discussing his ambitions. He said winning trophies with his new teammates had been his goal since the club first approached him.

Fernández has yet to begin full training with City, so it remains unclear when he will make his debut. His return to training will determine when he is available for selection.
