Italian Serie A club Fiorentina have parted ways with manager Fabio Grosso after Saturday's 2-1 defeat against Torino.

The Violets are struggling with a poor start to the 2026-27 season, having conceded nine goals so far, lost their first three games and currently find themselves at the bottom of the Serie A table.

Grosso joined Fiorentina in June after masterminding Sassuolo's promotion to the Italian top division in the 2024-25 campaign and helping them maintain their top-flight status last season.

"ACF Fiorentina announced that Fabio Grosso has been relieved of his duties as coach of the men's first team as of today," read a statement on the club's website.

GROSSO'S RECORD AS FIORENTINA MANAGER

After overseeing the pre-season friendlies, Grosso started his managerial spell at Fiorentina on a winning note by steering the Violets to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Benevento in the Coppa Italia round of 64.

However, it has been a contrasting run in the Serie A with Fiorentina losing their opening three games.

They suffered a 4-0 loss to Roma, followed by a 3-0 defeat against Frosinone and the recent 2-1 loss to Torino.

GROSSO TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR FIORENTINA'S BAD START

The Italian coach accepted responsibility for Fiorentina's poor start to the season during his last press conference in Florence on Saturday.

During the league loss to Torino, the Violets took an early lead through Mateo Pellegrino but they conceded two late goals in the closing stages of the game.

"I've faced many challenges in my career," Grosso was quoted by the club website. "The great thing about this sport is that you can enjoy victories but you also learn to deal with disappointments.

"I take full responsibility for this bad start of the season. The players gave it everything on the pitch."

WHAT NEXT FOR FIORENTINA AFTER GROSSO'S EXIT

Fiorentina have moved swiftly to secure the return of Paolo Vanoli to the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Vanoli is not new to Florence, having previously played for the Serie A club in the early 2000s and he was in charge as head coach between November 2025 till the end of last season.

The Italian coach helped Fiorentina finish 15th in the Serie A table last season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Fiorentina and Vanoli have reached a verbal agreement for him to return as first-team manager, with his announcement expected during the week.
