Manchester City fans joked that they underpaid for Enzo Fernandez after he impressed on his debut in a 1-0 win over Coventry City.
The Argentine midfielder started the game just days after sealing an £125 million move to the Etihad from Chelsea on deadline day. He'd been left out of his former club's last two matches as speculation grew over a late switch to the Cityzens.
Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the game, finding the back of the net in the 26th minute to make it three wins out of three for Enzo Maresca's table toppers. All eyes were on Fernandez and how he'd fare on his first appearance for the club.

Fernandez didn't take long to win over City fans, delivering a performance that earned widespread praise. His passing abilities wowed many of the Etihad faithful and they are confident he'll be a success.
The 25-year-old completed 66 passes, created one big chance, made three defensive contributions and made eight passes into the final third. He also won four ground duels as he got right into the thick of the action.
While some supporters suggested he didn't look completely match-fit, others felt he proved his worth. He has become the joint-most expensive player in Premier League history, joining Liverpool's Alexander Isak at the top of the list.
The win means City have now won all three of their opening games after beating Bournemouth 2-1 in their opener and Crystal Palace 4-1 at Selhurst Park. They sit at the top of the table ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea's clash at the Emirates tomorrow.
Fans Hail Fernandez With Chelsea Joke
Some City fans, mostly English, questioned the decision to spend such a huge fee on Fernandez. Much of their prior reservations stemmed from his actions after Argentina beat England at the World Cup.
It's fair to say, the consensus is that he delivered on his debut as one fan wrote:
"Enzo Fernandez has been excellent in his debut. Excellent."
Another pointed out his playing style:
"How I love Enzo Fernández when he gets to the box. A constant danger. Sublime footballer."
One supporter believes any club would love to have the Argentine:
"Enzo Fernandez is a dream midfielder for many clubs,this guy is a proper baller."
Another highlighted that he had been named in the starting lineup so soon after joining City:
"The guy came on as a starter in the last minute, played an absolute blinder of a game, and on top of that, he left to a standing ovation—Enzo Fernández, folks"
One even joked that Chelsea deserved more money:
"Nah send Chelsea another 125 Million. We really scammed them with Enzo Fernandez. I am moved"
Fernandez has joined a City side that is looking to wrestle the Premier League title back from Arsenal. He is one of three big-money midfield signings to have arrived at the Etihad over the summer, following Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi to Manchester.
