Jorge Mendes has reportedly offered Manchester City's Matheus Nunes to Barcelona as the Catalan club looks for a specialist right-back, according to El Nacional.

The report claims that City could accept around €40 million or less for the Portugal international, 28. There is said to be internal disagreement at Barca over whether to pursue the defender.

Nunes' future is somewhat uncertain as City await the outcome of an appeal against guilty charges relating to breaching the Premier League's financial regulations. Punishments if the verdicts stand could include relegation or expulsion from the top-flight.

Deco and Laporta Reportedly Back the Move While Flick Opposes it

Barcelona want to sign a specialist right-back to free Eric Garcia to return to centre-back. Reports claim that Mendes has offered Nunes to the club and indicated that the City defender would welcome the move.

Mendes maintains close ties with president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco. He also represents Lamine Yamal, Alejandro Balde, Marc Casadó, and Guille Fernández.

Barca are divided over a potential move for Nunes. Deco supports the signing, while Laporta is reportedly willing to pursue the deal to maintain his relationship with Mendes.

Hansi Flick opposes the move, with the German coach unconvinced that Nunes meets his demands for a world-class signing who would improve the squad, the outlet reports.

Nunes would cost significantly less than Barca's supposed preferred target, Pedro Porro. Tottenham Hotspur would demand a much higher fee for the Spanish right-back.

City’s Sanction, Nunes’s Contract and Barcelona’s Alternatives

Nunes joined City from Wolverhampton Wanderers on 1 September 2023 for a reported £53m. His contract runs to June 2028. He played 49 matches and 4,015 minutes in 2025-26.

Nunes is believed to be preparing to leave amid uncertainty over the club’s potential punishment for financial breaches. An independent commission found City guilty of almost all 115 charges.

No sanction has been announced, with the penalty due to be determined at a separate hearing.

At Barca, Jules Koundé has lost his regular right-back place to Eric Garcia this season. João Cancelo and Xavi Espart can also cover the position, although both have often played at left-back.

Porro signed a new Tottenham contract until 2031 in June. The Cataalans are targeting the Spurs defender for 2027, but may need to sell Alejandro Balde or Koundé to finance the move.
