Manchester City have confirmed Phil Foden has signed a new four-year contract, extending his stay at the Etihad until 2030. The England international's previous deal was set to expire in 2027, but there was never much doubt the lifelong City fan would commit his future to the club.

Foden commits his future just weeks into a new era at the club, with Pep Guardiola gone and Enzo Maresca now in charge of the squad the Englishman helped build.

Speaking through the club's official channels, Foden said: "Committing my future to City means everything to me. Playing for this Club is all I've ever wanted to do, and it's always an honour to wear the shirt."

He added that he felt fortunate to have been part of a trophy-laden period but stressed the squad was "always looking to the future."

Foden joined City's academy at age nine and made his first-team debut as a teenager. The announcement also comes amid a summer of turnover at the Etihad. Defender John Stones and midfielder Bernardo Silva both left the club this window.

Club figures have framed the deal as recognition of Foden's importance as one of the club's leading academy graduates.

Foden's City Career In Numbers

Since debuting against Feyenoord in the Champions League on November 21, 2017, Foden has made 369 appearances for City, scoring 110 goals across all competitions. Last season alone, he featured 50 times, contributing 10 goals and seven assists.

His trophy cabinet now stands at 20 major honours, including six Premier League titles, five League Cups, three FA Cups, three Community Shields, a Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.

Individually, Foden's 2023-24 campaign brought the PFA Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season awards.

Guardiola's decade in charge ended after last season, with Maresca confirmed as his successor on a three-year deal in late June following his exit from Chelsea. The Italian previously worked under Guardiola as an assistant and once led City's development squad.

Reflecting on the transition, Foden said: "As many of the legends who were here when I first broke through move on, I am excited for the next phase of my career at this great club."

With Stones and Silva departed, Foden becomes one of the senior voices Maresca inherits from the Guardiola era.

Foden's output fell across the two seasons before this new deal, and he lost his regular starting spot under Guardiola.

Foden was left out of Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad this summer after underwhelming displays in England's March friendlies. Used as both a No. 10 and a false nine rather than in his preferred wide role, he struggled to impress, while Cole Palmer strengthened his claim as England's first-choice attacking midfielder.
