Barcelona have reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign Spain midfielder Rodri for a total package worth up to €76.5 million after several days of negotiations between the clubs.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal, reporting that City had accepted Barcelona's latest bid for the former Ballon d'Or winner.

The 30-year-old is expected to travel to Barcelona in the coming days to complete his medical and sign his contract ahead of the Joan Gamper Trophy fixture.

How Barcelona Won the Race to Sign Rodri

Barcelona moved quickly after Manchester City's discussions with Real Madrid over Rodri collapsed earlier in the week.

Hansi Flick is understood to have spoken personally with the Spain international, a conversation that reportedly helped sway the midfielder towards Camp Nou.

Barcelona's initial offer of €45 million was rejected by Man City, who were seeking a higher fee for their captain and key midfielder. A second proposal worth €60 million plus add-ons, taking the package to around €70 million, was also turned down.

The Sky Blues only agreed to sell after Barcelona returned with an improved offer of €76.5 million.

According to details attributed by David Ornstein, the package includes a €60 million fixed fee, €11 million in bonuses considered easily achievable for City, and a further €5.5 million in more difficult performance-related bonuses.

The Spaniard had one year remaining on his Manchester City contract, which gave the Catalan giants some negotiating leverage, as the player could have left on a free transfer next summer.

Rodri joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2019 and quickly established himself as a key figure in Pep Guardiola's side. He scored the winning goal against Inter in the 2023 Champions League final, securing City's first European Cup.

A year later, he won the Ballon d'Or, becoming the first Manchester City player to receive football's biggest individual honour and reinforcing his reputation as one of the world's finest midfielders.

Barcelona expect Rodri to add experience and control to their midfield after several seasons as one of City's most influential players.

The club believes that his composure in possession and his ability to protect the defence will strengthen Flick's midfield.

His arrival also gives the club an experienced option around younger players such as Marc Bernal as they continue their development.

The 30-year-old is expected to undergo his medical in Barcelona before signing a four-year contract with the club.
