When the conversation turns to the greatest striker in Premier League history, names like Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, and Wayne Rooney are immediately shouted from the rooftops. Yet, somehow, Sergio Agüero and his legacy are never mentioned. As a Manchester City fan, I may be seen as biased, but I saw this man terrorise top-flight defences over 10 years.
I am going to break down the reasons why the man they call "Kun" deserves his flowers and is a top five bagsman England's top division has ever seen
His Consistency
Agüero did not just have one or two world-class seasons; he delivered a decade of relentless output. The Argentine sits among the most prolific goalscorers in Premier League history with 184 goals and that's with injuries in most seasons. Even more astonishingly, he holds the record for the best goals-per-minute ratio the division has ever seen. Averaging a goal every 108 minutes, Agüero was mathematically the most lethal finisher in the league's history.
Every year, barring one, he was top 5 in the Golden Boot race, the most in the modern era. From 2014-19, the Argentine scored 20 league goals and 30 goals in all competitions. Even with injuries, the man knew where the net was when he played under multiple managers.
His Silverware
You cannot discuss Aguero without mentioning his winning pedigree. He was the ultimate catalyst for Manchester City's modern dynasty, arriving when the club was desperate for a breakthrough and leaving as a serial champion. He won five Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and a record six EFL Cups during his ten years at the Etihad Stadium. In his first season in sky blue, he cemented his legacy with the best title-winning goal of all time against QPR, which secured City's first league title since 1968. The phrase "Balotelli, Agueroooo" will be immortal to any Prem fan for better or for worse.
The argument of being in a team full of superstars is always held against him but even with the squad changing around him he was still able to score in finals and crucial games to make those titles even possible.
His Ability
Agüero was far more than just a poacher. His low center of gravity, terrifying acceleration over short distances, and two-footed finishing made him a nightmare for defenders. He could score 30-yard screamers, deft chips, and near-post headers despite not being tall.

In 2014-15, he put the whole team on his back, scoring Patrick's against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, 4 goals against Tottenham in the league on the way to winning the golden boot. Even through transitions and players dropping from form, Aguero was able to win games by himself, either by scoring or a moment of magic. He was an underrated passer for a forward, having 47 assists in the league to top off his impact.
His Award Snubs
Even with all those stats and accolades, for some reason, he wasn't rewarded by the media or players at the end of the season. Despite his historic goalscoring numbers, consistency, and title hauls, he never once won the PFA Players' Player of the Year or the FWA Footballer of the Year. Even more shockingly, he was only selected for the PFA Team of the Year twice in his entire Premier League career. Even in the season when he was the top scorer, he missed out on the team of the season.
