Chelsea are in club to club talks with Rayo Vallecano over the signing of Pep Chavarria.
It is understood that Chavarria, 28, would provide competition for Jorrel Hato on the left hand side.
The Spaniard has been identified by Xabi Alonso as an ideal player to replace Cucurella.
Chelsea have already signed Italian fullback Marco Palestra, however, he is predominantly a right sided player.
While the exact figures being negotiated are unknown, it is not thought that Chavarria would be an expensive addition.
He has played over 100 times for Vallecano, and recently featured in the UEFA Conference League Final defeat to Crystal Palace, but is yet to be capped for Spain.
If Chelsea are to complete the signing, further doubts will be raised over the future of Malo Gusto, as Chelsea would have two left sided options, and three right sided options.
Xabi Alonso is looking for fullbacks who can also play wingback, which alongside his playstyle of intensity, being technically secure and a hard worker, Chavarria fits.
More to follow.
