'I Don't Understand What He's Doing': Odegaard Hits Out At Silva
Norway captain Odegaard was left feeling angry and distressed after a coming together with Bernardo Silva in the second half of their UEFA Nations League meeting.
Silva, a second-half substitute for Portugal, received a booking for taking a swipe at Odegaard's ankle in stoppage time long after the 27-year-old had released the ball.
The Arsenal midfielder was clearly unhappy and made his feelings known immediately, showing signs of discomfort after the kick from Silva.
Speaking to TV2 in the mixed zone after the game, Odegaard criticised Silva for his unsporting behaviour, accusing the Portugal international of targeting him with the kick.
"It doesn't belong on a football pitch. It's a shame that people behave like that. It's a head fog from him. Just kicks me down long after I've played the ball away. I don't understand what he's doing," he said (via GOAL).
Bernardo Silva gave a brief response when he was asked about the tackle when he went through the mixed zone, and he replied without breaking stride that it was a normal thing in football.
"Which tackle? That's football, my friend," he said dryly.
When asked if he thought there was significant damage to his ankle, Odegaard remained hopeful but revealed that his ankle was bothering him at that moment.
"I hope not, but I got a knock on the ankle there, so it probably won't be good tonight," he replied.
The Norwegian will be keen to avoid an injury, judging by the way he has started the 2026-27 season for club and country.
He has scored four goals in eight outings for Arsenal, three more than he managed in the entirety of the 2025-26 season. He also provided a pair of assists in Norway's 3-2 win over Denmark last week.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping the knock does not lead to an injury for his captain, having already seen Kai Havertz sustain an injury in this window.
