Barcelona has announced that, starting from the 2026-27 season, the men's and women's first football teams will wear the Barca Foundation logo on the back of their shirts in all official competitions.
The change marks the end of a four-year partnership with the United Nations Refugee Agency, and the beginning of a move Barcelona believes better reflects its own social mission. Barcelona are not only unveiling a new kit or promoting a brand.
They believe that they are reminding the world that the club's identity should still be tied to values, community, and responsibility. Coming next season, Barcelona is making that message more visible than ever.
Why Barcelona Are Ending Their Partnership With UNHCR
The UNHCR logo has appeared on the back of Barcelona shirts since the 2022-23 season. The agreement, signed in 2022, helped raise awareness among millions of fans about the reality of refugees and displaced people around the world.
It followed an equally significant chapter. In 2006, Barcelona surprised the world by giving the front of the shirt to UNICEF for the first time, using one of the game's most valuable commercial spaces to promote children's rights. From 2011, UNICEF moved to the back of the shirt, before UNHCR replaced it in 2022.
The four-season UNHCR deal included a cash contribution of €400,000 per season directed at four projects across four continents, one project per continent, plus an in-kind donation of FC Barcelona sports equipment valued at €100,000 per season.
It is certain that the humanitarian work will continue, but from next season it will be the Barca Foundation, rather than UNHCR.
Why The Barca Foundation Will Feature On Barcelona's Shirts
The shift from an external charity to the club's own foundation could easily be misread as Barcelona pulling inward, but that's not the case.
Established in 1994, the Barca Foundation has focused on supporting vulnerable children through sport and education. Improve the lives of thousands of children and young people in Catalonia and across the globe.
Every La Liga, Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League match will give the Barca Foundation unprecedented visibility. The logo will appear in front of millions of viewers, helping draw attention to the programmes the Foundation runs for vulnerable children and young people.
What Barcelona's New Shirt Means Beyond Football
It is worth noting the timing. Barcelona are navigating a significant rebuild, financially, tactically, and in terms of squad identity.
Lamine Yamal is 18. Pau Cubarsi is 17. Marc Bernal is still a teenager. This is a squad shaped by young players who came through La Masia, the same academy system the Barca Foundation has supported for three decades.
Against that backdrop, placing the Barca Foundation logo on the back of the shirt feels consistent with the direction the club is taking.
As Barcelona place greater trust in the next generation on the pitch, they are also giving greater visibility to the Foundation that represents their wider social mission.
The 2026-27 kits have not yet been officially unveiled. Further details of the full shirt design are expected in the coming weeks.
