Ferran Torres has completed his move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain. Barcelona confirmed the transfer on Thursday after negotiations continued for much of August, with the Spanish forward absent from training while the deal was finalised.
SPORT report a fee of €48.5 million, while Mundo Deportivo puts the figure at €50 million without add-ons.
The deal would therefore appear to recover most, if not all, of Barcelona’s investment in Torres, who scored the winning goal in the World Cup final weeks ago but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.
The Catalan giants' decision to sell Torres is not simply a financial move or a routine transfer of a young prospect.
The Spain international, who scored the winning goal against Argentina in the World Cup final on July 19, has chosen to continue his career with PSG after struggling to secure a regular starting place at Camp Nou.
Why Barcelona Decided to Sell Ferran Torres
Torres had 11 months remaining on his Barcelona contract, leaving the club at risk of losing him on a free transfer next summer.
Instead, sporting director Deco has secured a fee close to the €55 million Barcelona paid Manchester City for the forward in 2021, allowing the club to recover most of its original investment. Torres leaves Barca with three La Liga titles and 65 goals in 207 appearances.
However, he never fully established himself as a regular starter, often operating behind Robert Lewandowski in the attacking hierarchy.
His relationship with some supporters also became strained after he spoke publicly about Paris Saint-Germain following Spain's World Cup triumph, with critics arguing the comments came too soon after his success with the national team.
Luis Enrique Reunites With Ferran Torres at PSG
One possible factor behind Torres’ decision to join Les Parisiens is his previous relationship with Luis Enrique. The manager worked with Torres in the La Roja squad from 2018 to 2022 and previously won the Champions League and two La Liga titles during his time at Barcelona from 2014 to 2017.
He is now PSG's manager, building an attack around players he already trusts. Spain's 2026 World Cup title came under a different coach, Luis de la Fuente, who guided La Roja to a 1-0 extra-time win.
However, Torres's reasons for choosing the French champions have not been publicly confirmed.
How Barcelona Could Reinvest the Ferran Torres Transfer Fee
Barcelona are expected to reinvest the proceeds from Torres’s transfer. Robert Lewandowski has already left the club for Chicago Fire, while Barca are pursuing Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez as a possible long-term replacement.
If Barcelona fail to sign Julian Alvarez, Lautaro Martinez is reportedly among the alternatives under consideration. The Inter forward is valued at around €120 million. Victor Osimhen and Serhou Guirassy have also been linked with the club.
