While invitations for the 2026 StriveAid football charity match are at a premium, football content creator and model Lil Jr (otherwise known as Junior Pereira) is one of the creators on the roster.
But this won't be his first time playing a StriveAid match.
For an Arsenal fan, scoring against legendary former Gunners goalkeeper Jens Lehmann sounds like a distant dream.
Junior has made it a reality, and it remains his favourite StriveAid moment: “My goal against Jens Lehmann! It was such a real moment.”
Accomplishing the surreal helped produce what he now describes as his best-ever celebration: “Probably my favourite celebration ever. The knee slide was really good because the pitch was really wet, so I think I hit the best knee slide I’ve ever hit in my life!”
“And then the embrace with the fans, hugging my girlfriend in the crowd. It was a really, really great moment.”
There are few places where you can share a pitch with players whose names are woven into football history, and Junior recognises that Striver has gifted him opportunities of a lifetime.
“Playing with the likes of Gilberto Silva and Roberto Carlos again is obviously an honour. It's amazing. These are legends of the game we're talking about. So, to share the pitch with them again is genuinely an honour. And Jeremy Aliadiere as well!”
Lil Jr's StriveAid Memories: From Scoring Against Jens Lehmann to Playing With Legends
For Junior, the surreal nature of StriveAid is difficult to ignore. One moment he is doing what he has built his career around: creating football content for an online audience. The next, he is sharing a dressing room and a pitch with some of football’s finest ever players, in the name of charity and the goal of creating an abuse-free environment.
And that is part of what makes StriveAid different. While the football provides the otherworldly occasion, the principles that Striver upholds and preaches make it that much more.
“I think the message behind [Striver is important]. Showing that: okay, you can talk about mental health. I think it is an important thing, and I feel like some people not necessarily take it for granted, but I feel like it is something that sometimes we kind of push under the rug because some people don't want to dampen the mood a bit.”
Junior continued: “A lot of the time, there's times where not everyone’s okay and not everyone is having the best of times, whether they're keeping it inside or they do reveal it. But I feel like it is good to check on that, and I think it does send an important message.”
And that encapsulates why StriveAid means so much to so many.
Junior will have another chance to create lifelong memories with and against football legends when StriveAid returns to Kingsmeadow on October 3.
