Algeria kick-started their AFCON campaign with a bang - with a 3-0 win vs Sudan. But, one of the main headlines was actually off the pitch - in the form of former Real Madrid and French Legend Zinedine Zidane. In the lead-up to AFCON 2025, there is growing speculation about Zidane's interest in supporting Algeria's efforts in the tournament.

Zidane Algeria AFCON 2025 rumours continue to circulate and excite fans. He was in Morocco today, to witness his son keep a clean sheet for the home side. Star player Riyadh Mahrez's brace was followed by a late goal from Bayer Leverkusen's Ibrahim Maza, to solidify a great start for the Algerians.

Goalkeeper Luca Zidane, who currently plays for Granada in the Segunda Division, made just his second start for his nation. The 23-year-old was previously a part of France internationally. However, unlike his dad, he made the decision to not represent France internationally. His choice could be a significant factor for the Zidane Algeria AFCON 2025 storyline.

With AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan ultimate Hugo Lloris successor, it was hard to see a pathway for Luca - so a necessary but sensible decision had to be made. Zinedine's family also have a deep rooted passion for Algeria which although he couldn't fulfil, his son could.

Algeria headed into the tournament with a strong squad consisting of players in Europe's biggest leagues. Rayan Ait Nouri of Manchester City, Ismael Bennacer of AC Milan (on loan at Dinamo Zagreb) are just a few other household names alongside Mahrez, Maza and Zidane. The involvement of Zidane is likely to be a significant draw for Algeria's participation in AFCON 2025.
