Aston Villa have completed a €50 million double signing, bringing in Japan international goalkeeper Zion Suzuki and Matteo Ruggeri.

According to David Ornstein, Suzuki joins from Parma in a deal worth an initial €30 million, with a further €5 million potentially due in add-ons.

The 23-year-old has signed a five-year contract with Villa and is expected to take over as the club's new number one.

Ruggeri, meanwhile, arrives from Atletico Madrid for €25 million fixed fee plus €1.5 million add-ons after just one season in Spain, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Zion Suzuki Joins Aston Villa After PSG Move Collapses

Suzuki's move to Villa comes after a dramatic few days regarding his future.

The Japan international had appeared close to joining Paris Saint-Germain, with a verbal agreement reportedly in place between the French champions and Parma.

PSG had even arranged a private flight to Italy for Suzuki to complete his medical after Parma gave permission for the process to take place.

However, the transfer unexpectedly began to fall apart due to issues on the player's side, putting the proposed move in serious doubt.

Villa have now moved quickly to secure his signature.

Suzuki spent last season as Parma's first-choice goalkeeper, making 20 Serie A appearances and starting every league match he played.

His performances attracted interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs, with Les Parisiens particularly keen on the Japanese goalkeeper as they looked towards the future.

Instead, Suzuki will now begin a new chapter in the Premier League.

Suzuki Set to Become Aston Villa's New Number One

Suzuki is expected to replace Emiliano Martinez as Aston Villa's first-choice goalkeeper.

The Argentine's future remains uncertain after a potential move to Juventus fell through, leaving the Villans with uncertainty surrounding one of the most important positions in the squad.

Suzuki therefore arrives at an important moment for the club.

At just 23, the goalkeeper represents a long-term investment and has already gained valuable experience in one of Europe's major leagues.

His move also represents another significant step in his development with the Japan national team.

Villa will be hoping his combination of age, experience and potential can make him a key part of their plans for years to come.

Matteo Ruggeri Adds Depth at Full-Back

Villa's second signing, Matteo Ruggeri, also arrives with plenty of experience despite being just 23.

The Italian full-back spent the 2025-26 season with Atletico after joining the Spanish club from Atalanta.

He made 45 appearances during his only campaign in Madrid, providing seven assists across the season.

His performances have now convinced Villa to invest €25 million in bringing him to England.

Ruggeri gives Villa another option at full-back and adds further depth to the squad as Villa prepare for another demanding campaign.

What Suzuki and Ruggeri Bring to Aston Villa

The double deal highlights Villa's ambition in the transfer market.

Suzuki's arrival in particular could prove to be one of the more interesting moves of the summer given the competition for his signature and the dramatic collapse of his proposed PSG transfer.

Just days after appearing destined for Paris, the Japan international is instead heading to the Premier League.

With a five-year contract now signed, Villa have secured one of Europe's most highly regarded young goalkeepers on a long-term deal.

And with Ruggeri arriving alongside him, the club have strengthened two areas of the squad with a combined investment of more than €50 million.

For Suzuki, the next challenge is clear: establish himself as Aston Villa's new number one and show why both PSG and Villa were so determined to sign him.
