This development is to give the club a safety net of sorts while they continue to try to achieve their primary goal of getting their traditional home in the best possible shape on schedule.

Barcelona have concluded arrangements to ensure that they have the Montjuic to themselves for the first half of the 2027/28 season.

In an attempt to reduce matchday expenses, Barcelona have resolved to finding a temporary home for the early 2027/28 season matches ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, better known as Montjuïc, will host Barcelona, who spent close to $20 million to maintain it in the past.
The Spanish giants will now have Montjuïc available from August 2027 through to December, with the 50,000 capacity arena set to target the period where the Spotify Camp Nou is unavailable.

Barcelona are prepared for a major installation at the Spotify Camp Nou, the massive new stadium roof.
Construction crews are expected to finish all three main seating tiers by spring 2027, hoisting the heavy steel support structures and overhead cable networks across the stadium perimeter.
To do this safely, the club must create safety zones to keep the fans safe while the work goes on on the roof.

The Spanish giants would have been forced to play at the 6,000-capacity Estadi Johan Cruyff, spending more money on temporary seating arrangements to increase the capacity.
This move would have been somewhat suicidal, seeing as the club and other LaLiga teams already operate on very strict budgets.
A move to the Estadi Johan Cruyff would mean that over 40,000 Barcelona fans would be unable to watch their games in person each week, representing a significant loss of revenue.
By returning to the Montjuïc, the home they used prior to their return to the Spotify Camp Nou last season, they will preserve their significant Matchday revenue stream.
