Barcelona have completed the signing of Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, with the Germany international putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Spotify Camp Nou.

The Catalan club have agreed a deal worth an initial €22 million, with a further €7 million in performance-related add-ons, while Borussia Dortmund retain a sell-on clause as part of the agreement.

Adeyemi arrives after four productive seasons in Germany, where he made 146 appearances and scored 36 goals for Dortmund. His pace, direct running and versatility add another dimension to Hansi Flick's attack as Barcelona continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new campaign.

Karim Adeyemi's Journey To Barcelona

The 24-year-old signed his first professional contract at Red Bull Salzburg but was loaned out the second division side FC Liefering. Across his 35 games for the club he registered 15 goals and 8 assists and was promptly included in the RB Salzburg side.

His opening two campaigns for Die Roten Bullen lacked the goal contributions he showed while on loan but with a Champions League goal under his belt, his 2021-22 season was phenomenal.

Five goal contributions in 10 Champions League games was only the beginning of his electric season. Adeyemi had 31 goal contributions in 44 games for the Austrian side. His red hot form was noticed by Die Schwarzgelben, and a return to Germany was made following his five-year contract signed for the German giants.

The dynamic attacker had a slow start to life upon his return to Germany, registering just 21 goal contributions in his opening 64 games across two seasons.

However, Adeyemi registered double digit scoring seasons in the following two campaigns in Dortmund for the first time in his professional career. This form earned him his first international cap after performing for the German U21 side.

Why Barcelona Signed Karim Adeyemi Instead Of Marcus Rashford

Rashford enjoyed a great campaign in Barcelona but his high wages have scared the Spanish giants away from making a bid to Manchester United.

Due to Barcelona's difficult financial situation, they have prioritised young players that they can sign on a long contract to spread the transfer fee across multiple years. This enables the club to be FFP compliant and sign great players.

Rashford commands a reported over £200,000 a week wage so annually even with the reduced transfer fee, he will cost Barca significantly more each year than signing Adeyemi who is under contract until he is 29 years old.

Manager Hansi Flick has also worked with Adeyemi before during their time at RB Salzburg. Flick also gave the 24-year-old his international debut during his time with the German national team. Flick has always chosen the young attacker, so when the chance came to sign him, he took it instantly.

What Barcelona Said About Signing Karim Adeyemi

In a press release Barcelona said: "Now reunited with Flick once again, Adeyemi arrives at a club where he can continue to develop and improve on a daily basis. He joins Barcelona eager to prove himself and fully committed to helping his compatriot's side.

"Although he played an important role during Germany's World Cup qualifying campaign, he was not included in the squad for the final tournament. After a summer free to recharge his batteries and with the whole of pre-season ahead of him, Adeyemi is now officially a Blaugrana."

Adeyemi is yet to have completed his first interview since confirming the transfer but will join the squad for pre-season imminently.

Borussia Dortmund Bid Farewell To Karim Adeyemi

After 146 appearances and 36 goals across four seasons, we would like to thank Karim for his passion and commitment in black and yellow. Wishing you all the best in this new chapter, Karim!"
