Sunderland have rejected Chelsea’s opening bid for Granit Xhaka, following initial interest in the player.

It is understood the offer was in the region of £8m, according to David Ornstein from The Athletic.

Sunderland view the offer as disrespectful, however Chelsea’s stance is that it was fair, given his age.

The Northerners are said to be refusing to consider any further offers, but that has not dettered Chelsea, who are set to try again.

Xhaka wants to reunite with Xabi Alonso and is said to be pushing for the move.
