Before Howe steps back into the high-pressure world of management, Given insists the 48-year-old needs a well-deserved break.
Describing him as an absolute "workaholic" who arrived at the training ground at 6:00 AM and left late in the evening seven days a week.
"From everything I've heard, it could well be that Eddie wants to take a step back and get away from it all now to recharge his batteries and I wouldn't be surprised if he has some time out, maybe a year off out of the game," Given said.
It would be no surprise if struggling clubs approach Howe later this season should he decide he is ready to return to management.
Whenever Howe decides to return to management, the England role may become an option in the future, depending on the FA's plans after Euro 2028.
