Chelsea have agreed a deal worth £7.5m to sign Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa.
Martinez is set to sign a two year contract with an option of a further year.
Chelsea decided to hold internal talks after the performance of Robert Sanchez against Fulham on Monday, who was at fault for both goals conceded by Alonso’s men.
The Blues majority ownership Clearlake Capital, alongside the sporting leadership team and Alonso in collaboration, have shown a strong willingness to adapt their previous youth led model this summer.
Sources have told Striver.Football that Alonso has been working on building a squad that can react to difficult in game situations, and Martinez is seen as someone with a strong head on his shoulders.
Though they had maintained all window that they were happy with Sanchez and Penders, those recent internal talks, plus the added factor of Martinez’s availability, provided an opportunity too good to turn down.
