World football's governing body, FIFA, has punished Turkish club Fenerbahce with a three-window transfer ban over unresolved financial obligations.
The registration ban, which is listed on FIFA's Registration Ban List, means the Yellow Canaries are currently unable to register new players for three consecutive registration periods.
Fenerbahce were among the active Turkish clubs in the summer transfer window, making several permanent signings.
The new players include Mason Greenwood, Romelu Lukaku, Vedat Muriqi, Kojo Oppong, Nathan Ake, Adem Yesilyurt and Sidiki Cherif.
Why Did FIFA Ban Fenerbahce Over Youssef En-Nesyri's Transfer Fee?
The transfer ban followed a complaint to FIFA over Fenerbahce's failure to make an instalment payment relating to En-Nesyri's transfer fee.
The Morocco international joined Fenerbahce from Sevilla for a reported €19.5 million in July 2024, a fee that was reported as a Super Lig transfer record at the time.
Sevilla and Fenerbahce agreed on a payment structure of eight instalments over four years, but Fenerbahce failed to make a payment that was due on April 30, 2026.
Sevilla subsequently took the matter to FIFA, which imposed a three-window registration ban that Fenerbahce says is temporary.
How Have Fenerbahce Responded to the FIFA Transfer Ban?
Fenerbahce have described the three-window transfer ban as a temporary measure relating to Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri.
The Turkish club also confirmed on Saturday that it will make the payment ordered by FIFA on Monday, after which it expects the ban to be lifted once the relevant procedures are completed.
"We would like to inform our fans and the public regarding the news in the press about the FIFA transfer ban imposed on our club," the club statement read.
"The three-period transfer ban imposed on our club is temporary and concerns the transfer fee of Youssef En-Nesyri, who joined our team in the 2024-2025 season.
"Due to the non-payment of the transfer installment due on April 30, 2026, the relevant club took action with FIFA, and our management paid the overdue installment after taking office. In the case filed by the relevant club with FIFA, payment of the next installment was also requested, and we awaited the FIFA decision regarding payment.
"Our club will make the payment ordered by the FIFA decision on the first working day (Monday), and the transfer ban will be lifted after the completion of the bureaucratic procedures with FIFA.
"Furthermore, all financial statements and liabilities from the past period will be shared transparently with our Congress Members and the public at our Ordinary General Assembly to be held tomorrow (September 27, 2026)."
