Day 14 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 was a definitive day that saw all the action from group A and Group B finalised, as teams got to know their fates with a place in the round of 32 on the line.
Mexico continued to extend their World Cup unbeaten group stage history on home soil, while South Africa effectively arose from the dead to seal a place in the knockout stages for the first time in their entire history.
As the world anticipates for an exciting day 15, Striver.Football brings you a recap of all the action from day 14.
Czechia 0-3 Mexico

Co-hosts Mexico entered the history books by dismantling Czechia, marking the first time in history that El Tri has won all three of its World Cup group-stage matches.
After a cagey, high-tension first half where Czechia’s low block frustrated the hosts, Mexico’s tactical patience paid off beautifully after the interval.
Mateo Chavez broke the deadlock with a brilliant strike, and just six minutes later, Julian Quinones doubled the advantage to blow the game completely open following a brilliant chance created during the build up by exciting teenage wonderkid Gilberto Mora, before Alvaro Fidalgo added a late third.
The emotional peak of the evening came at the final whistle when the entire Mexican squad hoisted the legendary Guillermo Ochoa into the air after subbing him on with a few minutes left, preserving Mexico's status as completely undefeated in World Cup history on that sacred turf.
South Africa 1-0 South Korea

The undisputed upset of the night belonged to South Africa, who stunned South Korea to launch themselves into the knockout stages for the very first time.
In a match where the Asian giants were heavily favored to progress, Bafana Bafana executed a flawless defensive game plan that completely starved South Korea’s creative stars of space in the final third.
The definitive moment arrived in the 63rd minute when Thapelo Maseko unleashed a brilliant strike to rattle the South Koreans.
South Africa’s backline held firm under immense late pressure, allowing them to leapfrog South Korea into second place and secure a fairytale ticket to the Round of 32.
Switzerland 2-1 Canada
In Vancouver, the party atmosphere was abruptly deflated as Switzerland played the ultimate spoilers, defeating co-hosts Canada to snatch away the top spot in Group B.
The night belonged to 20-year-old Swiss rising star Johan Manzambi, who was handed his first-ever World Cup start and responded by completely orchestrating the Swiss attack.
Manzambi scored a sensational opening goal and dictated the tempo of the match, exposing structural gaps in Canada's transition defense.
While Canada's Promise David injected late drama into BC Place by pulling one back to ignite the home crowd, the disciplined Swiss defensive block held firm.
Canada still advances in second place, but their failure to top the group hands them a significantly more perilous path through the knockout brackets.
Brazil 3-0 Scotland

Group C wrapped up with a masterclass in elite transition football as Brazil cruised past Scotland in Miami.
Vinicius Junior was the conductor of the Seleção's frontline, netting a clinical brace that exposed Scotland’s high defensive line and comfortably locked down the group's top seed. Man United forward Matheus Cunha hit the final nail in Scotland’s coffin with a late third goal to give them all the three points in the end.
Morocco 4-2 Haiti
The other side of the group featured absolute chaos, where Morocco survived a massive scare to edge out an already-eliminated Haiti.
Haiti briefly threatened to cause a monumental embarrassment when Lenny Joseph scored a spectacular, audacious backheel goal early on.
However, Morocco’s elite squad depth eventually overwhelmed the Caribbean side, with Walid Regragui’s second-half substitutions, most notably Soufiane Rahimi, completely shifting the physical momentum of the game to safely lock down second place.
