Everton’s owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), are exploring options for the club’s future ownership, including a potential sale of their controlling stake.

No deal has been agreed, and no potential buyer, valuation, or transaction timetable has been disclosed. Everton and TFG said they would make no further comment while the process continues.

What Everton Confirmed About a Sale

Everton said in a club statement that The Friedkin Group was “exploring new investment options for Everton Football Club, including the potential sale of a controlling interest.”

The statement does not confirm a sale or indicate that a takeover is imminent. A sale of the controlling stake remains one of the options under consideration as the group explores investment opportunities for the club.

The Friedkin Group has appointed investment bank Moelis & Company to advise on the process. No potential buyer, proposed sale price, or transaction timetable has been publicly disclosed.

Friedkin Group Sets Conditions for Buyer

The Friedkin Group said it would consider interest only from parties it believes can build on the progress made at Everton.

“We will only entertain interest from parties whom we strongly believe will be the right stewards to take the Club forward and build on the momentum that has been established,” the group said in the club’s statement.

TFG also pledged to continue supporting Everton on and off the pitch while the process is underway. The group did not announce a timeframe for the process or clarify how its ownership plans might change if no suitable buyer emerged.

The Athletic reported that TFG initially sought fresh investment through the sale of a minority stake in Everton. The group’s latest announcement also allows for a sale of a controlling interest, although it has not specified what proportion of the club it would be willing to sell.

What Remains Unclear for Everton

TFG completed its takeover of Everton from Farhad Moshiri in December 2024, less than two years before announcing that it was exploring a potential sale of its controlling stake.

During its ownership, Everton moved into Hill Dickinson Stadium as the club continued to address financial challenges. TFG said the progress made during that period had laid the groundwork for Everton’s “next chapter.”

The Friedkin Group also owns Italian club AS Roma and French side AS Cannes. It has not said whether a potential sale of Everton would affect its ownership of either club. It remains unclear whether TFG would sell its entire stake or retain a minority holding.
