Barcelona have completed the signing of Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal on a three-year deal reportedly worth €10 million as the Catalans have been in search of a replacement striker for Ferran Torres, who left for Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the transfer window.
The Brazilian striker joins Barca after a three-season stint with Arsenal where he tallied 32 goals and 22 assists from a total of 123 appearances across all competitions and played a part in the club winning the 2025/26 Premier League title, albeit only three league goals last season. He also spent a decent chunk of last season sidelined with a knee injury, but ha a new challenge at Barcelona, a club that was always a "dream move" for him.
For Barcelona, Jesus becomes the club's fourth major signing of the summer transfer after Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, and Rodri from Manchester City. and they're not expected to make anymore signings before the window officially closes.
Hansi Flick Explains Why Barcelona Signed Gabriel Jesus
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is delighted to now have Jesus in the ranks, as he now has a more natural number 9 in his squad. That's not to say that Gordon, Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, Adeyemi, and/or youngster Hamza Abdelkarim couldn't have split time acting as the central forward or false nine, but bringing in an experience forward like Jesus is a welcomed addition for Flick.
After Barcelona's 5-2 La Liga win over Rayo Vallecano at Camp Nou on Monday night, Flick quickly offered his excitement to now have Jesus in the squad in his post-match press conference.
"For me, Gabriel Jesus is a top striker. I’m very happy he’s here. He can bring a lot to the team," the former German national team and Bayern Munich manager enthused.
Camp Nou Delight For Jesus
For Jesus, he's just as delighted to be at Barcelona as Flick is to have him. After his future started to become less certain at Arsenal, Jesus has been training separately from the rest of the squad and he didn't know just where, exactly, he'd wind up.
But things worked out in the end.
"I have strong faith in God and I knew that if I did things well, anything could happen. I have always been a guy who respects everyone, so I thought things would turn out well. I was working very hard at Arsenal, separately from the other players of course," Jesus explained at his official Barcelona unveiling.
"I kept giving my best because I knew a good thing would happen, and now it's happened. A week ago, I received the message that it could happen. When I started to think it was a real possibility, it made me very excited, and made me want to be here a lot. I have the opportunity now to be here at Barca now. I had the opportunity 10 years ago, but life took me in a different direction. But now, I can be here. It's a dream for me," he continued.
Jesus could make his debut against Valencia on Sunday (September 6th) at the Mestalla. He joins a Blaugrana side who have made a perfect start to the season with three wins on the bounce.
