When German striker Nick Woltemade signed for Newcastle United in the Summer, the reason was clear. Alexander Isak who had been at Newcastle for two years jumped from the Magpies to the Premier League Champions, Liverpool. Their was great expectation when the striker came into the club for a fee of around sixty-five million pounds. Has the young striker met the highs expected from him?

Woltemade made his Newcastle United debut against Wolves on the 13th of September. Coming from Stuttgart in the Bundesliga this was the German's first taste of English Football, and he did not fail to impress. He scored the only goal in the game to seal three points for Newcastle on his Premier League debut. Newcastle fans who were still pained after the loss of Isak were delighted that their new man had made such a good start. He only added to this going onto score in three of his next four Premier League games.

After this amazing start it seemed like Newcastle had got the perfect man to replace Alexander Isak, however a tough spell followed the striker during the following months. Woltemade only scored one Premier League goal against Everton after his initial spell of four goals in five games. This Everton goal coming in a 4-1 Win whilst Newcastle were already ahead by 2-0. He did score in a Carabao Cup game verses Spurs but to replace the machine of a goalscorer that was Alexander Isak, this was simply not good enough. Things went from bad to worse when Woltemade put a goal against his own side in the all important Tyne-Wear Derby verses Sunderland. A mistake that costed Newcastle the match in one of the most important fixtures of the season for Magpie fans.

Woltemade has done what he can to make up for the own goal against Sunderland. The Striker scored twice against Chelsea today, to put the Magpies 2-0 up. This goal was eventually overturned by Chelsea, to finish the game in 2-2 draw. The goals from Woltemade is sure to redeem some of the love from fans. Coming into replace one of the best goal scorers in the League was always going to be a challenge, but Woltemade has overall impressed in his time. Only time will tell the future of Nick Woltemade.
