Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca has provided an update on winger Antoine Semenyo, following his injury against Ipswich Town

The Ghana international has escaped the worst-case scenario, but is set to spend a couple of months on the sidelines following his injury.

He was spotted limping at the end of the 3-2 win at the Etihad alongside Erling Haaland, prompting speculation over the nature and extent of his injury.

'It's not so big like we expected': Maresca provides positive Semenyo update

Maresca spoke to the press ahead of City's UEFA Champions League game against AEK Athens this mid-week.

The former Chelsea coach revealed regarding Semenyo that the winger will be out until December after his injury against Ipswich.

He admitted that there were fears of a significant injury in the immediate aftermath of the game on Saturday, but scans showed that his prognosis is much better.

"The only one that will be out for probably eight weeks is Antoine [Semenyo].

In the first moment we expected a worse injury. After yesterday's scan we feel much better because it's not so big like we expected. It will be eight weeks.

Now the most important thing is recovery. When he is back in December it will be like a new player. Collateral. It's not muscle," he said.

Semenyo was a second half substitute for City against Ipswich, with Jeremy Doku having been preferred to feature from the start.

The former Bournemouth man has scored two goals and contributed three assists in seven Premier League appearances for City this season, and the Ipswich game was the first time he had not started a league game this season.

He was initially feared to have suffered an ACL rupture, but the scans have shown that he picked up a leg injury, instead.

More positive news for City with Erling Haaland

Maresca also spoke to reporters about striker Haaland, who limped off the pitch after the full-time whistle, having scored a brace in the game.

The Norwegian is set to be available for the Champions League game against the Greek outfit, having only sustained a knock in the Ipswich game.

City's coach stated that the outcome of their training session today (Monday) will determine if Haaland will feature.

"He [Erling] can be available. We'll see. We have a session now and we have some doubts. He was quite good yesterday. Better."

Haaland has been his usual self this season, scoring eight goals in seven Premier League games to propel City to the summit of the standings.

He was on target in the 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) last week, scoring both of City's goals, just as he did in their first game against FC Porto.
