The charges that Manchester City have been found guilty of have opened the club up to a whirlwind of ridicule from rivalling Premier League clubs and their fans, both lighthearted and some bordering on the boundaries of dark humor.

The club have appealed against the findings of an independent commission, but it's going to be a long, drawn-out process to finally see everything through to the end, which means there's a whole lot of time for rivals fans to keep hurling the banter.

Opinions on what City's punishment should be have ranged from serious points deductions on top of fines, expulsion from the Premier League, and even stripping all of the titles won in the period of offences.

For now, Enzo Maresca has the job of keeping his players motivated and focused on the task at hand of winning their matches, keeping out all of the outside noise from the club's off-pitch happenings. The players won't be strangers to getting abuse from opposing fans during matches, but it's something that will surely be a part of quite a bit of their matches for the foreseeable future.

Manchester United Bringing Back The Banter Ticker

Local rivals Manchester United will be wasting no time getting their banter in on City. As per The Athletic, United are going to be bringing back their famous Stretford End ticker at Old Trafford for this weekend's home match against Tottenham.

The banner, which was first brought into Old Trafford's Stretford End back in 2000, displayed a running count for how long it had been since Manchester City had last won a title. At the time when it was first displayed, the banner read '24 years.' It was taken down after City's FA Cup triumph in 2011.

The ticker had been subject of playful banter between the two clubs for quite some time, too. City players had displayed a banner at Wembley after the FA Cup win in 2011 that read '00 YEARS' and then United fans had updated their banner to read "19 times" to change angles of the banter tossed City's way.

Updating The Banner

In light of the charges that City have been found guilty of, United fans have made updates to the banner they now plan on displaying in the Stretford End.

Manchester United supporters group The Red Army has paid £114 to have the banner updated to read "51 YEARS" to signify that none of the titles won by City since 1976 have been legitimate. Of course, the charges against City only span from 2009 to 2018, but why would United fans want to recognize anything after that point for their local rivals?

For United, and certainly some portions of non-City Premier League fans, anything won by City since the Abu Dhabi takeover is considered illegitimate due to the connotations of the charges and how the club have financially benefitted from it. It's worth remembering that Pep Guardiola's City side twice won the league title by only one point over Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool (2018/19, 2020/21) inadvertently on the heels of financial backing that was a result of skirting financial rules over the years.
