First-time skipper Dominic Solanke struck in second-half stoppage time to snatch a dramatic point for 10-man Tottenham Hotspur, arresting a complete tailspin in a fiery 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
In an encounter defining two struggling heavyweights, Bryan Mbeumo broke the deadlock for United in the 73rd minute.
Spurs' evening spiraled into chaos five minutes later when Rodrigo Bentancur was shown a straight red card for headbutting Luke Shaw.
Yet, against all odds, Solanke rose in the 92nd minute to glance home Sandro Tonali's delivery and haul Roberto De Zerbi’s side off the foot of the Premier League table.
Striver.Football brings you the player ratings from both sides and how we thought they fared on a scale of 1-10.
Man United vs Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings
Manchester United
Senne Lammens - 4
Made a timely save early on in the game to cap off what was otherwise a fairly assured performance between the sticks. Should perhaps have done better with the equaliser by Solanke after naively thinking he was offside, which dropped his rating significantly for us.
Leny Yoro - 7
Did his job well as a right back. Coped fairly with the threat of Savinho, although the Brazilian winger got the better of him at some point when he delivered a cut back across goal to Mohamed Kudus who just missed the target in the first half.
Harry Maguire - 7
Generally looked commanding and was equally authoritative in possession.
Lisandro Martinez - 6
Also did not look out of place partnered next to his partner in crime. Ge made some timely interceptions, but was a bit rushed on the tackle at times which earned him a yellow card. His height counted against him for Dominic Solanke’s header.
Luke Shaw - 6
Had a great battle with Mohamed Kudus, but earned a yellow card for pushing Rodrigo Bentancur to the ground in the second half after a moment that saw Tottenham’s Jan Paul Van Heckke drove into a tackle to attempt to stop his surging run down the left.
Kobbie Mainoo - 6
Tried to progress the ball forward with his ball carrying and showed great press resistance severally.
Youri Tielemans - 6
Struggled to impose himself on the game for much of the first half, but gained momentum in the second half before being subbed off.
Amad Diallo - 5
Clearly looked like a man who just returned from injury. Did not really influence the game in attack and made life easy for Destiny Udogie.
Bruno Fernandes - 6
Tried to get his team going especially in possession, making some good diagonal switches of play, but in the end, he did not do enough to help United unlock Tottenham.
Matheus Cunha - 7
Made a great assist for Mbeumo’s goal, and looks at ease down the left rather than centrally, where he has been playing for much of the season.
Bryan Mbeumo - 7
Scored United’s goal and was generally United’s biggest attacking threat with the pace he offered them especially on the counter attack.
Manchester United Subs
Diogo Dalot - 6
On as a substitute for Leny Yoro, but kept things simple and generally held his own.
Joshua Zirkzee - 5
Struggled to make a meaningful impact in the game
Carlos Baleba - N/A
On for his debut but did not have enough time to influence the outcome of the game.
Ayden Heaven - N/A
On for his debut but did not have enough time to influence the outcome of the game.
Tottenham Hotspur
Antonin Kinsky - 7
Had a good game, and did even make a good save to deny Bryan Mbeumo when through on goal at some point in the game.
Archie Gray - 7
Should have done better against Matheus Cunha for the goal, but was generally assured at Right back both in and out of possession.
Jan Paul Van Hecke - 5
Was okay for most part, but did make a rather reckless challenge on Luke Shaw, but was lucky to get away without making any contact on the United left back that would have left him sent off. He also should have defended better for Mbeumo’s goal.
Marcos Senesi - 7
Started on the left hand side ahead of Micky Van De Ven and looked every bit as assured as his 31-year-old self suggests which at least calmed things down and did allow Van Hecke to be more aggressive with his defending while he took a step back.
Destiny Udogie - 7
Kept Amad Diallo quiet and was also a threat in attack.
Sandro Tonali - 8
Kept things ticking at the heart of midfield and dictated the tempo of Tottenham fairly well. Also produced the assist for Solanke’s winner.
Lucas Bergvall - 6
Looked equally authoritative for Tottenham before being subbed off in the second half.
Conor Gallagher - 7
Probably Tottenham’s best midfielder and made some line-breaking passes that caused the United defence problems particularly in the first half.
Savinho - 7
Was a threat with his pace on both flanks, and created a number of chances for his teammates. Looked promising.
Dominic Solanke - 7
Scored Tottenham’s goal to spare their blushes after winning his areal battle against Lisandro Martinez for the winner.
Mohamed Kudus - 7
Was threatening down the right flank and was even unlucky to miss a glorious chance in the first half after being set up well by Savinho.
Tottenham Hotspur Subs
Omar Marmoush - N/A
Did not really influence the game in an attacking sense.
Rodrigo Bentacur - 2
Was sent off after headbutting Luke Shaw after the two were involved in an altercation following a driving tackle the Uruguayan made on Bruno Fernandes. Let emotions get the better of him after Shaw had shoved him to the ground.
Micky Van De Ven - N/A
Did not really have enough time to influence the outcome of the game.
James Maddison - N/A
Did not really have enough time to influence the outcome of the game.
