Two of the Premier League’s hottest teams go head-to-head at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, 30 December 2025 (20:15 GMT). League leaders Arsenal host third-placed Aston Villa in a fixture that could shape the early title race.

Arsenal arrive on the back of a hard-fought 2–1 win over Brighton. They are maintaining their lead at the top of the table. The Gunners have now won nine of their last 10 home league matches. They can finish 2025 in first place with another strong performance here.

Villa, meanwhile, are riding an incredible wave of confidence after another dramatic 2–1 win, this time away at Chelsea. There winning run to 11 games in all competitions. That remarkable form has lifted them into the top three places them firmly in title contention.

Arsenal are top of the Premier League with 42 points. They’ve shown resilience in tight matches and have a strong defensive record. However, they have dropped points in recent head-to-head clashes with Villa.

• Aston Villa, under Unai Emery, have been unstoppable of late, winning nearly every game and showing real momentum This includes their previous league meeting with Arsenal earlier this month.

Villa’s victory in the reverse fixture adds intrigue and suggests they’re capable of repeating the feat at the Emirates.

Injury trouble continues to bite Arteta’s defence with Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, Ben White and Cristhian Mosquera all on the sidelines. Declan Rice has even been used at right-back recently due to defensive shortages. Consequently, the boss may tweak his midfield shape again. Eberechi Eze, dynamic in home games against Villa in the past, could be important if selected.

Villa are without Matty Cash and Boubacar Kamara due to bookings picked up against Chelsea. Hence, adjustments will be needed in defence and midfield. Ollie Watkins, Villa’s match-winner of late, is expected to start. He will be flanked by Morgan Rogers, Emiliano Buendía and captain John McGinn.

Can Arsenal control the midfield? With Rice potentially back in his favoured position and Odegaard pulling the strings, Arsenal will aim to dominate possession and tempo. Villa’s counter-attacking threat means transitions must be managed carefully.

Will Villa’s momentum continue? Their run of wins has been built on second-half resilience and tactical flexibility from Emery. This will be tested in a high-pressure title race environment.

This isn’t just another fixture, both sides know the title implications. A Villa win would see them draw level on points with Arsenal and gain a psychological edge. For Arsenal, keeping clear at the top means responding to rivals’ results and showing their championship credentials at home.

Historical head-to-head suggests a competitive match, with both clubs enjoying victories over the years. But this iteration looks set to be a fascinating test of Arsenal’s resilience against Villa’s unbeaten streak.
