Paris Saint-Germain faces a scheduling clash between the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony and its rescheduled Ligue 1 match against Lyon. The game, originally scheduled for 25 October, has been moved to 26 October because of security concerns in Paris.

Kick-off at the Parc des Princes is scheduled for 20:30 local time (19:30 GMT), while the Ballon d’Or ceremony at London’s Palladium begins at 20:00 GMT.

Reuters reported that the fixture change could affect the attendance of PSG’s nominees, although injured players may still be able to attend the ceremony.

PSG has 10 players nominated for the men’s Ballon d’Or, making the fixture change significant for the club. However, it remains unclear which nominees will attend the ceremony, and the rescheduled match does not necessarily mean they will all miss it.

Why PSG’s match against Lyon was rescheduled

The LFP announced the change on 23 October after the Paris Police Prefecture prohibited the match from taking place at its originally scheduled time. The league agreed on the revised schedule with broadcaster Ligue 1+.

The decision comes as authorities prepare for further protests following rioting and looting in Paris and other French cities on 17 October.

A National Football League game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints is also scheduled at the Stade de France on 25 October, adding to security pressures in the capital. The LFP’s statement confirmed the revised fixture.

Which PSG Ballon d’Or nominees could miss the ceremony?

PSG has 10 players on the men’s Ballon d’Or shortlist: Dembele, Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Joao Neves, Willian Pacho, Fabian Ruiz, Ferran Torres and Vitinha.

The club also has nominees in other categories, including Matvey Safonov for the Yashin Trophy, Warren Zaire-Emery for the men’s Young Talent of the Year award, and Luis Enrique for the men’s Coach of the Year award.

Dembele is among the PSG nominees whose attendance has been discussed in connection with the scheduling change. The forward won the 2025 Ballon d’Or after helping PSG secure major honours, and he is nominated again for the 2026 award.

PSG’s medical updates have also raised questions about player availability. Kvaratskhelia was reported to have suffered a serious right-knee injury, while Dembele and Marquinhos were listed with thigh injuries.

PSG and Lyon were level on 14 points after seven Ligue 1 matches, with Lyon ahead on goal difference. Their rescheduled meeting is an important early-season test for both sides, while the attendance of the remaining PSG nominees remains uncertain.
