Mexico star Raúl Jiménez has backed Club Tijuana wonderkid Gilberto Mora to make a move to Borussia Dortmund as interest in the teenager continues to grow.

The 35-year-old striker believes Mora has the potential to play at the highest level in Europe, but suggested that a gradual move could be the best route for the 17-year-old.

Mora has quickly established himself as one of Mexico's brightest young talents, earning regular opportunities for Tijuana and making his mark on the international stage.

With European clubs continuing to monitor his progress, Jiménez believes Dortmund could be the perfect destination.

Jiménez names Borussia Dortmund as ideal destination

Mora's future was discussed when Jiménez was asked about the next generation of Mexican talent making the move to European football.

The Fulham striker was full of praise for his young international teammate.

"He has the potential to play anywhere, but it can also be a gradual process, step by step."

Jiménez was then asked where he would like to see Mora continue his development.

His answer was clear.

"Where would I like to see him? Maybe in Germany, at Borussia Dortmund. They have their own style of play."

Dortmund have built a reputati

on for developing young players and giving them opportunities at the highest level, making the Bundesliga club an intriguing potential destination for Mora.

The German side have previously provided a pathway for some of Europe's biggest young talents, with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland all making significant strides during their time at the club.

Gilberto Mora's rise has attracted Europe's biggest clubs

Mora's emergence has been rapid.

At just 17, the attacking midfielder has already become an important player for Tijuana and has made the step up to senior international football with Mexico.

His performances have inevitably attracted attention from clubs across Europe, with Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona all previously linked with the youngster.

Striver previously reported on Mora's preference for Real Madrid or Barcelona over Liverpool, with the teenager reportedly favouring a move to La Liga when the time comes to leave Tijuana.

That makes Jiménez's Dortmund suggestion particularly interesting.

Rather than simply choosing between two of Spain's biggest clubs and Liverpool, Mora now has another potential destination to consider if Dortmund's reported interest develops into something more concrete.

Dortmund have already monitored Mora

Borussia Dortmund have previously been credited with an interest in Mora, with reports during the 2026 World Cup suggesting the Bundesliga club had made contact regarding the teenager.

Nothing has materialised into a transfer so far, however, and Dortmund have since strengthened their attacking options.

The club signed Konstantinos Karetsas and Giannis Konstantelias, while also bringing in Ethan Nwaneri on loan.

That could make a move for Mora less straightforward in the immediate future.

However, at 17, the Mexican has plenty of time to continue developing before making the jump to European football.

When could Mora move to Europe?

Mora's age remains an important factor in determining when he can make the move.

The Tijuana star turns 18 on October 14, meaning an international transfer to a European club can become possible once the relevant registration and transfer window requirements are satisfied.

A move in 2027 is currently expected, giving European clubs more time to assess his development.

Mora is also reportedly under contract with Tijuana until June 2029, putting the Mexican club in a strong negotiating position.

With interest continuing to build, his eventual departure could become one of the biggest transfers in Liga MX history.

Could Borussia Dortmund beat Real Madrid and Barcelona to Mora?

Dortmund's interest could give Mora an alternative to the more obvious destinations.

Real Madrid and Barcelona would offer the chance to develop at two of the biggest clubs in world football, while Liverpool have also been linked with the teenager.

Dortmund, however, have a particularly strong reputation when it comes to developing young players and giving them the platform to establish themselves in European football.

That could make Jiménez's suggestion more than just an interesting hypothetical.

For now, Mora's immediate focus remains on continuing his development with Tijuana and Mexico.

But with one of Mexico's senior stars now publicly naming Dortmund as a potential destination, the teenager's European future looks set to remain a major talking point.

And if Dortmund do decide to make their interest concrete, they could find themselves competing with some of Europe's biggest clubs for one of Mexico's most exciting young talents.
