Jose Mourinho is not happy with the officiating after receiving a yellow card in Real Madrid's shocking 1-0 defeat to Real Betis in Friday's La Liga encounter.
Troy Parrott scored the 81st-minute winner that separated the two teams at the Estadio de la Cartuja after Kylian Mbappe missed a last-minute penalty.
Real Madrid dominated proceedings in Betis, with Mbappe and Vinicius Junior coming close to finding the back of the net but they were unlucky to hit the woodwork.
The defeat denied the Galacticos the chance to leapfrog Barcelona who sit at the top of the La Liga table with a superior goal difference and a game in hand.
MOURINHO: REAL MADRID DID NOT LOSE BECAUSE OF A YELLOW CARD
The Portuguese coach was critical of the officiating but did not make it an excuse for Real Madrid's first loss of the season.
He questioned the officials' decision after Real Betis ended the first 45 minutes without a yellow card, in defence of Arda Guler who was also booked.
Real Madrid ended the game with four bookings compared to Real Betis' three yellow cards.
"I don’t know why he gave me a yellow card, but it’s okay, I accept it," Mourinho was quoted by the club website.
"I stood up because a Betis player looked like he was dead right in front of the bench.
"Betis reached half-time without a single card, and poor Arda, who only knows how to play, ended up with a yellow.
"I didn’t like that, but after losing a match, I’m not going to say now that it was because of a yellow card that we won or lost."
MOURINHO CAN'T EXPLAIN HOW REAL MADRID LOST
Real Madrid dominated Friday's encounter with clear intentions right from the kick-off.
They had the most shots, ball possesion, passes and corner-kicks but they fell short by losing all three points at the end.
“The team played a great match. Sometimes you lose and don’t know why or how to explain it," he added.
"We were very dominant, the center-backs were imperial and controlled absolutely everything. A lot of offensive play and many goal-scoring opportunities.
"If the match ends in a draw, we leave frustrated because we did more, so imagine how we feel with the loss. The team was solid throughout.
"Betis had some counterattacks, which is normal. The match was Madrid's. Betis, who played for the draw, hit the jackpot.”
