Jose Mourinho’s second stint with La Liga giants Real Madrid has come under scrutiny after two months into the season.

According Spanish journalist Jorge Picon, some Madrid executives are not convinced by Mourinho’s impact since his second return.

The report added that Mourinho is, however, fully backed by his players with no signs of a divided team.

Mourinho returned to the Spanish capital in May after his first spell from 2010 to 2013 and he signed a three-year deal that keeps him at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2029.

MOURINHO’S SECOND STINT AT REAL MADRID UNDER DOUBT

Mourinho has made a case for a strong team since he succeeded Alvaro Arbeloa at the end of 2025-26 season.

From pushing for club-record signings in the summer to convincing key talents to commit their future to the club, Mourinho’s impact has been immense off the pitch.

Some players he signed during the summer transfer window include Yan Diomande, Marc Cucurella and Denzel Dumfries while players who have extended their stay at the club include Vinicius Junior, Arda Guler, Jude Bellingham and Thibaut Courtois.

Despite Mourinho’s influence in the Real Madrid dressing room, some club executives reportedly do not see any difference between the Blancos’ style of play and last season’s style under Arbeloa.

Madrid are third in La Liga table after defeating Sevilla 4-1 on Sunday but they are six points behind leaders, Barcelona.

DIDIER DESCHAMPS EMERGES AS POTENTIAL REAL MADRID COACH

While the rumours around Mourinho’s future at Real Madrid swirl, the Spanish club have reportedly cited former France and Olympique Marseille coach Didier Deschamps as their next managerial option.

According to another Spanish journalist Sergio Valentin, Real Madrid president Florentin Lopez has informed his closest circle of his interest in Deschamps.

58-year-old Deschamps has been out of job since he quit the French national team coaching role at the end of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in July.

He guided the Blues to lift the World Cup in 2018, followed by a second-place finish at Qatar 2022 and a third-place finish at this summer’s tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The last Frenchman to take charge at the Santiago Bernabeu was Zinedine Zidane between 2019 and 2021, and he is currently Deschamps’ successor in the French national team.
