While Real Madrid didn't have much success at club level this year, their superstar talent has undeniably taken over the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 15-time European champions have officially etched their name into the international history books, breaking a 72-year-old goalscoring record in North America.

With an unbelievable collection of attacking talent representing their respective nations, Los Blancos players have combined to score the most goals by a single club in a single World Cup tournament.

How Real Madrid Broke A 72-Year FIFA World Cup Record

Heading into the 2026 World Cup, the record for most club goals at a single tournament stood at 18. It was originally set in 1954 by the legendary Hungarian side Budapest Honved, led by Sandor Kocsis.

That tally was later matched by Bayern Munich during Germany's dominant 2014 run, and most recently by Paris Saint-Germain in 2022, mostly carried by the duo of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

However, Madrid shattered that ceiling during the quarter-finals when Jude Bellingham netted a match-winning brace for England against Norway.

That double brought Madrid's total to 19, officially claiming the record outright. Bellingham then extended the record to 20 goals with a magnificent solo strike in the end-to-end bronze-medal match against France.

The Madrid Players Behind The Historic Goals Record

The attacking talent Madrid have to offer was only going to get some goals at this World Cup. But the heavy lifting was mostly done by three players.

  • Kylian Mbappe (10 goals): The French captain is currently leading the Golden Boot race.
  • Jude Bellingham (7 goals): Bellingham not only secured the club record but also made English history, becoming the only Three Lions player to ever score seven goals at a major international tournament.
  • Vinicius Junior (4 goals): Despite Brazil's early Round of 16 exit, the Samba star still got 4 goals before heading home.
  • Arda Guler (1 goal): The Turkish sensation chipped in during the group stage to ensure his name was part of the historic milestone.

Jose Mourinho will be happy that his stars have been finding the net to build on a redemption season next year.

If anyone can manage egos, Jose can turn these into animals by the time club football starts again.
