The World Cup winner would love to join Los Blancos “one day” but president Florentino Perez is unconvinced about proceeding with the signing of the midfielder.
With worries across football about how Rodri would recover after an ACL injury, the 31-year-old put all worries to bed after having the best performance from a midfielder in World Cup history. Rodri completed the most passes in World Cup history after the semi-final win against France.
However, despite a fantastic World Cup campaign that saw him lift the trophy on Sunday, Madrid seem to have a lukewarm interest on the Spaniard. "Florentino Perez has always blocked this deal or any negotiations for Rodri this summer". as per Fabrizio Romano.
As per the Athletic, despite the admiration expressed by some senior figures within the dressing room to bring in the former Atletico Madrid midfielder. Rodri has made it clear that: “The fact that I played for Atletico Madrid does NOT stop me from playing for Real Madrid. You CANNOT refuse the best clubs in the world.”

Los Blancos are understood to be unconvinced about proceeding for the Manchester City midfielder at this stage, a position that is striking to most football fans.
With Romano describing talks as “cold” it implies that City won't need to replace their integral piece to their Premier League and Champions League winning puzzle.
Rodri is out of contract in 12 months but with a contract offer from the Sky Blues on the table, Perez is looking to force the midfielder into making a key decision with the future of his career.
Romano made it clear in June "Not a priority for Florentino Perez + up to Rodri whether he wants to sign new deal at MCFC (still on the table) or leave in 2027 on a free".

Romano made it publicly available that despite a contract offer on the table for Rodri for months the "deal [is] on stand-by now".
Rodri will have a crucial decision in the 2026-27 season under new manager Enzo Maresca to decide on his next club. He can either extend his City spell to over 8 years or look to return to Madrid but play in all white as opposed to the red and white stripes he once wore.
The Spaniard will join the Man City squad for pre season as expected as he braces for a gruelling season battling in all four competitions.
