Nigeria's Ademola Lookman was full of praise for Mohamed Salah as the pair are competing in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Super Eagles had been on an upward trajectory for a while now. They reached the final of the 2023 AFCON against Ivory Coast.
Despite missing out on the title then, they are aiming for silverware this time. They have made quite a promising start in Morocco.
With three wins in the group stages, Nigeria have cruised to the round of 16. They defeated Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda.
Eyeing glory
Speaking to Egyptian media recently, Lookman talked about their aspirations in the competition. He believes their path to glory will be difficult.
"We want to do our best in AFCON," the Atalanta winger said via ON Sports.
Having the likes of Alex Iwobi, Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and Ademola Lookman in their star-studded squad. This could be the year Nigeria claim the AFCON title.

Experienced squad
"Last year, we went to the final and finished second. This year, we are looking to make that next step, and we have to show that together as a team.
"There are a lot of strong teams in Africa. A lot of top players as well. Everyone knows this. Obviously, I believe in my team and the squad we have to be in the semi-final.
"Who else will be there? We will have to wait and see."
Praise for Salah
The winger went on to discuss Mohamed Salah's recent controversy with Liverpool before praising the 33-year-old for his inspiration.
"I can't really speak on other people's cases," he continued. "But what I can say about Salah is that he is an icon for us and for Africa.
"An extraordinary person and an extraordinary player. That's for sure."
Nigeria are set to meet Mozambique next in the round of 16 on Monday (19:00 GMT). Meanwhile, Egypt face Benin on the same day with kick-off taking place at 16:00 GMT.
