Barcelona has identified a supporter suspected of hitting Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga with a flagpole during the Clasico at Camp Nou on 25 October. The incident occurred as Real Madrid celebrated Kylian Mbappe’s 87th-minute winner in their 2–1 victory.
Camavinga had assisted the goal and was with his teammates near the Gol Sud stand when footage appeared to show a supporter swinging a flagpole at him. La Liga has referred the case to the RFEF Disciplinary Committee and Anti-Violence Commission.
According to La Liga, the supporter is linked to a group in the Grada Gol 1957 section and will also face disciplinary proceedings from Barcelona.
How Barcelona And Police Identified The Supporter
Reports published on Thursday, October 29, said the Mossos d’Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police force, identified the supporter after La Liga filed a complaint.
The individual belongs to a group based in Barcelona’s Grada 1957 section, where the incident occurred during goal celebrations. Barcelona has referred the case to its Disciplinary Committee, which will decide what action to take.
The supporter has also been banned from entering the stadium while the investigation continues.
La Liga also reported 17 incidents involving supporters from both clubs after the match. These included offensive chants, objects thrown onto the pitch, and the alleged incident involving Camavinga and the flagpole.
What Punishment Could The Barcelona Supporter Face?
Under Spain’s Sports Law, the supporter could face a fine of between €3,000 and €60,000 if the incident is classified as a serious offence. Cadena SER also says a ban from sporting venues lasting six months to two years is possible.
The incident is expected to fall into this category because no physical or material damage was reported. Very serious offences carry harsher penalties, including fines of up to €650,000 and stadium bans lasting between two and five years.
Those sanctions are not currently expected to apply in this case.
Barcelona’s internal disciplinary process is separate from the administrative proceedings. The club has already barred the member from entering Camp Nou, but its final decision on further disciplinary action is still pending.
Meanwhile, the RFEF Disciplinary Committee and Anti-Violence Commission will review the incidents referred by LaLiga. According to beIN SPORTS, La Liga’s report recorded 10 incidents involving Barcelona supporters and seven involving Real Madrid fans.
The same goal celebration also led to a temporary stoppage after bottles, cans, lighters, and a vaping device were thrown towards the pitch. None hit a player, but referee Juan Martínez Munuera activated the object-throwing protocol.
Play was stopped for one minute and 20 seconds as a warning was issued over the stadium’s public-address system.
