Chelsea fans will get to see Champions League action at Stamford Bridge this season after all... albeit with the caveat that it will not be their own team, but Shaktar Donetsk instead.
Chelsea have today agreed a deal which will see Shaktar, one of Ukraine's most famous teams, play their home fixtures in London, at Stamford Bridge, for the league phase of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League.
Shaktar, who have a good relationship with Chelsea, with multiple deals being done over the years between clubs for the likes of Willian and Mkyhalio Mudryk, have been in the need to source a new venue for their matches due to ongoing saftey restrictions over the Russia-Ukraine war.
Chelsea FC said: "FC Shakhtar have played in countries across Europe and we look forward to welcoming them to London for their Champions League campaign this year".
Shaktar also commented on the deal, saying: "Playing our Champions League home matches at Stamford Bridge is a special opportunity for Shakhtar. We are grateful to Chelsea Football Club for the opportunity to host our games at this special venue. Stamford Bridge is one of the most famous stadiums in world football, with an incredible history and atmosphere. We are convinced that Shakhtar’s matches in London will provide unforgettable emotions for Ukrainian and English fans."
