The fallout from Manchester City's Premier League saga continues to rumble on and has led to talk of their past successes being tainted, something Vincent Kompany does not agree with.

The former centre-back addressed the ongoing legal turmoil surrounding his former club, expressing his pride at what he achieved with the club.

The Bayern Munich manager enjoyed a hugely successful 11-year spell with the Cityzens, winning multiple honours and becoming one of the greatest players in the club's history.

Kompany left City in 2019 and was at the club for the entire period for which they were investigated and found guilty of breaches of financial regulations.

"As a player you’re not a part of that": Kompany Explains Innocence in Manchester City Case

Vincent Kompany spoke to reporters ahead of his Bayern Munich side's return to action, and he was asked about the ongoing case in England due his connection with Manchester City.

The Belgian was clear in his response, stating that he remains very proud of what he achieved on the pitch with his teammates in their time at the club.

“I played 11 years for the club. I’ve loved all of the years I played for the club and everything we achieved and done on the pitch, that’s something I’m really proud of.

He made sure to clarify that there was no way for the players to be aware of any shady dealings, firmly shutting down the conversation and moving on.

“Everything else, as a player you’re not a part of that and right now as a coach of Bayern Munich I’m not too much occupied with that topic as I’m preparing the game next week and preparing the game we have tomorrow and everything I have as a coach,” he said (via Irish Examiner).

In his response, Kompany made a clear distinction between administrative board decisions and the physical effort delivered by players on the pitch.

He emphasized that athletes operate entirely separated from financial governance, and whatever went on off the pitch was not in their control.

A Manchester City Legend: Vincent Kompany's City Legacy

Kompany joined Manchester City in the summer of 2008, having previously been on the books of Bundesliga outfit Hamburg.

The Belgian's arrival at the club coincided with the arrival of the Emirati bankrollers from Abu Dhabi, who immediately launched a large-scale offensive into the transfer market.

They signed Robinho for a club-record fee and brought in the likes of Jo and Nigel De Jong, as well.

Their bold strategy paid off within three years, as the club won the FA Cup and secured a first-ever UEFA Champions League spot.

In 2012, with Kompany as captain, they won their first Premier League title since 1968, and he was named as the Player of the Season.

He went on to represent the club on a total of 360 occasions, winning four league crowns and four League Cup titles, as well as two FA Cups.

He left the club in 2019 to rejoin boyhood club Anderlecht, where he would finish his playing career and start his coaching career.

In 2021, he was honoured with a statue outside the Etihad Stadium alongside David Silva, who had also been instrumental in the club's success.
