Bayern Munich's reserves have made a promising acquisition with the signing of South Korean defender Doyeon Kim from K League 1 side Daejeon Hana Citizen, where the 18-year-old spent two and a half years in the youth system.

The youngster signed a long-term contract with Bayern's reserves, keeping him at the club through the summer of 2029, joining fellow South Korean youth talent Jae-Won Heo at Bayern, as the keeper recently joined Bayern's U19's.

In addition to his time with the Daejon Hana Citizen youth teams, Doyeon Kim has also made 12 appearances for South Korea's U17 national team as one of the nation's most promising young talents.

With his move to Die Roten's reserve team, he is taking another important step in his development as he looks to eventually break into South Korea's senior setup.

Why Bayern Munich Believe Doyeon Kim Can Develop Into a Top Defender

Bayern's head of sport and youth development Michael Wiesinger has been thoroughly impressed by what he's seen from Doyeon Kim thus far, as he's been on trial at Bayern for a decent while before signing his contract with the reserve team.

"Doyeon has been training with us on trial for some time and has impressed us enough to warrant a move to our club. We've had good experiences with young players from South Korea in recent years and are confident that Doyeon, too, will take the next step in his development with our reserves," Wiesinger said after Kim signed with the reserves.

Doyeon Kim Begins Bayern II Adventure Under Dante

Under the management of former Bayern defender Dante, the reserves have not gotten off to a great start in the Regionalliga Bayern, having only won one match so far this season, a 2-0 win over FV Illertissen.

Before that victory, Dante's reserve side had lost three and drawn one of their opening four matches.

Kim made his Bayern II debut as a substitute in the 2-0 win over Illertissen and will now look to build on that appearance., though he can also move between the U23 and U19 sides as Bayern's amateur team coaches see fit based on necessity and where they'd need him the most at any given time.

Bayern II's next fixture is a home match against VfB Eichstätt, with Dante targeting a second victory of the season and Kim potentially making his second appearance.
