Alessia Russo has been named England Women’s Player of the Year for the 2025-26 season, after winning a fan vote conducted in partnership with EE.

The Arsenal forward topped the poll ahead of fellow Lionesses Lucy Bronze and Hannah Hampton, who finished second and third respectively.

It is the second time Russo has won the award, having previously been named England Women’s Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season.

Alessia Russo's Impact for England in 2025-26

The striker played a key role for the Lionesses throughout the 2025-26 campaign, featuring in all 10 of England's matches and scoring five goals.

Russo started nine of those fixtures, including all six of England's FIFA Women's World Cup 2027 qualifying matches.

One of her standout performances came in March, when she scored twice during England's emphatic 6-1 victory over Ukraine.

She also scored the only goal in a crucial 1-0 victory over Iceland in Reykjavik, helping England maintain their progress towards the 2027 World Cup.

The award comes during another important international window for Russo, who scored her 31st England goal in Friday's 3-1 victory over Greece in the first leg of their World Cup Round 1 play-off.

Georgia Stanway and Maya Le Tissier were also on the scoresheet in Heraklion.

What Alessia Russo Said About Winning the Award

Russo was presented with the award by a group of girls representing the Alessia Russo Foundation, who were invited to attend the Lionesses' open training session at the start of the current international window.

The Arsenal forward said winning a fan-voted award made the recognition particularly meaningful.

"To receive the award is really special, particularly as it comes directly from the fans. I am so grateful for their support."

Russo also highlighted the importance of her England teammates in her success.

"A big thank you also to my teammates, it is always about the collective. I absolutely love playing for England every moment I get."

The forward is now focused on helping England continue their World Cup qualification campaign.

England Face Greece in World Cup Play-Off Second Leg

England head into the fixture with a 3-1 advantage from Friday's first leg and will be looking to secure their place in the next stage of qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.

For Russo, the award provides another reminder of her importance to the Lionesses as England look to book their place at next year's tournament.

England vs Greece kicks off at 7.30pm BST on Tuesday 13 October at the King Power Stadium.
