Bayern Munich Women continue to dominate the Frauen Bundesliga, but can they use that form to topple a defiant Real Madrid Women side.
Two European giants by name, but with limited Women's Champions League successes for either club, who will come out on top in their midweek clash.
Bayern Munich boast the longevity and consistency, but Real Madrid have shown a certain prowess for getting results in the competition this year.
A true clash awaits, with each side facing their own struggles when it comes to winning Europe's biggest prize.
Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid Women: Recent form and key statistics
Bayern Munich have won all eight of their games in the Frauen Bundesliga this season, scoring an impressive 29 goals in the process.
This makes them the third top scoring side in Europe, narrowly behind Spain's Barcelona Femeni and OL Lyonnes in France.
After an initial close rivalry with Vfl Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich have since become the clear dominant force in Germany, winning the league every year since the 2022/23 season.
When it comes to the Champions League though, Bayern Munich are yet to reach the same levels of success, although there have been signs of progression.
They've reached the quarter finals eight times in their history, but only made the semi finals twice. Positively for the German side though, one of these times was last season.
Narrowly losing out against the eventual winners Barcelona Femeni 5-3 on aggregate, should motivate Bayern to push that one step further, and at least reach the champions league final this year.
With one win and one draw in their first two league stage matches, against Benfica and Manchester City respectively, they're off to a decent start.
Real Madrid however have started their Champions League campaign with relative confidence, with two 1-1 draws against strong opposition.
Firstly, at home against PSG Women, where they took an early lead by scoring in the 2nd minute, and held this up until a late penalty rescued a point for the travelling side.
They then also faced the Women's Super League champions in Manchester City Women, where they again scored first but couldn't prevent Lauren Hemp from levelling the tie in the second half.
However, Las Blancas domestic season has been more mixed. Sitting in second place sounds positive, but when you lose 7-0 to the league leaders in the Women's El Classico, it looks slightly different.
Madrid will be hoping that result was a blip, but it does hint that they're still a level behind that elite tier of European clubs, a bracket which Wednesday's opponents Bayern Munich could easily fall into.
Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid Women: Head-to-head record and prediction
These two sides don't share much history. In fact, they faced each other for the first and only time in August 2025 for a pre season friendly, which ended in a dominant 4-1 win for Bayern Munich.
Bayern took that momentum to then go unbeaten in their league season, with a staggering +81 goal difference. So in some respects, Madrid scoring against them at all was an achievement.
In contrast, Madrid finished in an all too familiar second place in Liga F, again behind a record breaking Barcelona Femeni side.
The Champions League however is a different challenge entirely, and both sides have struggled getting to those latter stages, with neither ever reaching the final.
This match is a great setup for the rest of the competition this year, are Bayern Munich a genuine threat to the trophy? Or will Real Madrid's resilience prove problematic.
Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid Women: Predicted line-ups
Bayern Munich (4-2-3-1): Mahmutovic; Kett, Viggosdottir, Eriksson, Naschenweng; Amani, Tanikawa, Dallmann, Sehitler, Buhl; Harder.
Real Madrid (4-3-3): Frohms; Navarro, Lakrar, Andersson, Levels; Sens, Dabritz, Jacinto; Caicedo, Beerensteyn, Schroder.
Striver's prediction: Bayern Munich 2-1 Real Madrid
Bayern should continue their impressive start to the season with a win over Real Madrid, but we anticipate it will be closer than people might expect.
Madrid have proven their stubbornness against strong opposition, and as much as Bayern Munich come into the tie with both the form and home advantage, we anticipate there will be a scare from Madrid before Bayern take the ultimate spoils.
