Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens has named Manuel Neuer as the goalkeeper he looked up to growing up and Cristiano Ronaldo as his favourite United player of all time.
The Belgium international gave the answers in a short interview with Viaplay.
The interview was a quick-fire exchange, with Lammens giving brief answers. When asked which goalkeeper he looked up to growing up, he replied, “Neuer.” When asked for his favourite United player of all time, he answered: “Ronaldo.”
He was also asked what he considers the best thing about being a United player. “Probably our fan base and the amount of support we have from all around the world,” Lammens said.
When asked what he would do if he were not a footballer, he answered, "Maybe a history teacher."
Lammens, 24, joined United from Royal Antwerp on the summer transfer deadline day in 2025. The Athletic reported that the initial fee was £18.1 million, including add-ons. He made his United debut that October, replacing Altay Bayindir.
And he kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Sunderland. During that match, the Old Trafford crowd sang "Are you Schmeichel in disguise?" Lammens later told BBC Sport: "I'm not Schmeichel in disguise. I am just Senne Lammens trying to help the team."
What Lammens Previously Said About Man Utd Icons De Gea and Van der Sar
Lammens’ answer about Neuer differs from one he gave in an earlier interview with Premier League Productions, via Manchester United's website. Asked which goalkeepers he watched as a child, he named David de Gea.
"David de Gea was and is still a big goalkeeper in the world, especially those years when he was at his height in this club, so of course you watch him most of the time," he said.
He also said the 2008-09 season, when United were at their peak, was a formative period for him, with Edwin van der Sar in goal for the club.
How Lammens Has Performed for Belgium Since the World Cup
The Viaplay answers came after Belgium’s Nations League opener against Italy, in which Lammens started in goal. Belgium won 2-0 in Rome, with Mika Godts and Dodi Lukebakio scoring. ESPN's match data credits Lammens with six shots on target faced in the game.
He also made a fingertip save to deny Désiré Doué, but could not prevent Michael Olise from scoring in the 88th minute as France won 1-0 in Brussels. Belgium beat Turkey 3-0, with Kevin De Bruyne scoring twice and Romelu Lukaku once.
Those matches followed a difficult World Cup debut. In the quarter-final against Spain, Lammens came on in the 71st minute for Thibaut Courtois, who was forced off with a muscular problem, with the score level at 1-1.
Lammens spilled a long-range effort from Pau Cubarsí in the 88th minute, allowing Mikel Merino to score the winner and give Spain a 2-1 victory. Courtois later defended his replacement, saying it was a shame his compatriot could not hold on to the ball.
Belgium now has a new coach in Mark van Bommel, who previously worked with Lammens at Royal Antwerp. Van Bommel praised the goalkeeper's consistency, saying:
“Senne's strength is that he always remains the same regardless of the circumstances.”
Whether Lammens keeps the shirt when Courtois returns remains open. Belgian outlet VoetbalNieuws reported that former international Steven Defour described Lammens as an “excellent understudy” for Courtois.
Philippe Albert said the United goalkeeper would remain in Courtois' shadow if the veteran returns.
