Excluding the debutants of the 2026 World Cup, eight teams have failed to taste victory in the competition.
One of those nations are the co-hosts for this year's tournament, Canada, who have been one of the most struggling sides based on their two World Cup entries.
The Canucks have not gained a winning feeling in the tournament, hoping to end this drought while the competition takes place in their continent.
Here is Canada's history behind the FIFA World Cup and what it will mean to the nation if they can grab their first win.
A Painful World Cup Debut in 1986
Canada first qualified for the World Cup in 1986 where the tournament was hosted in Mexico, the other co-hosts alongside USA for this year.
While many countries will remember their first appearance, it was one to forget for the North American nation.
They were placed in a tough group against Euro 1984 winners France, two-time World Cup runners-up Hungary, and Euro 1960 winners Soviet Union.
The Canadians failed to score and win in any of their group games, losing; 1-0 to France, 2-0 to Hungary and 2-0 to Soviet Union.
It was disappointing for the fans who had real promise behind their country, especially after winning the CONCACAF Championship a year prior.
With plenty of time to forget about their agony, Canada did not reach another World Cup for 36 years.
Breaking New Ground in Qatar
Finishing top of their qualification in the CONCACAF third round, the Canucks returned for their second entry.
The search was still on to grab their first win and goal in the tournament as more optimism was shown in Qatar.
Canada's group stage in the World Cup 2022 would once again be a tough test, facing 2018 finalists Croatia, Belgium and Morocco.
After a 1-0 loss against Belgium, Canada finally found success within two minutes of their match against Croatia where Alphonso Davies scored the nation's first World Cup goal, despite a 4-1 loss.
Another goal was scored in a 2-1 loss against Morocco, but it meant John Herdman's team would finish last in their group and exit the competition.
Surprisingly, Canada would finish on the same goal difference (-5) compared to their last appearance as fans were still missing out on celebrating a triumph.
Why 2026 Represents Canada's Biggest Opportunity Yet
Canadian football fans will be showing more support than ever to their nation as the co-hosts prepare shock the world and finally claim victory in a World Cup.
Jesse Marsch leads the team and will be hoping to complete Canada's objective as the pressure mounts on the American.
In Group B of the 2026 World Cup, Canada face Bosnia & Herzegovina, Qatar and Switzerland.
The difference between the previous tournament for any team is that there is potential the top three teams in each group could advance to the knockout stages, depending on the ranking of each third-placed side.
Therefore, Canada will fancy their chances to not only grab their first win in history, but finally make it out of the first stage of the competition.
It would mean a lot for the fans who have waited years for their nation to gain success in a global tournament and potentially become one of the most stand-out teams in the international scene.
